my old laptop i broken. they said the battery is all out and has to vbe replaced. and the battery is causing the laptop to not work. so they said its better to replace it than to replae all the parts. so i need some files from my old laptop. is it still possible to transfer the files to my new laptop?

i want a laptop for under 1000.00 if it over its ok but not much over
i want it for intermediate school also some short car rides it doesn't have to be really fast but i don't want a slow one
-120gb hard drive
-a screen size of 14 inches or UNDER
-a light wieght but it doesn't have to be really light but not really heavy
-windows xp would be better but it ok if its vista
-a dvd player and possibley burner
-a webcam and/or microphone is not required but would be a nice touch
i might add stuff in addtion info so if you allready answered check back

I ask this because I have heard some horror stories from students who were caught using their email via the programs the school monitors the computers with. So, if I use their internet, with my own personal computer, will they be able to see that I went to yahoo email? I'm mostly concerned about the factor of sharing their IP.

My program says the cd I inserted is not the original disk I used to install the program, or that there is a conflict with the emulator program, so I uninstalled it, then re-installed it back, (with the original cd) and it worked. Then after shutting down my computer, and turning back on, the same error occured again, what can I do to fix this problem?

I'm a 20 year old University student and I'm despirately wanting to buy a Laptop.

I've never had one before, so I have no idea what to look for.

I own a 30 GB iPod, so I listen to alot of music, so I'll need lots of space, I think.

I'd also like to be able to watch movies on my Laptop.

And of course, the internet, but that's no big deal.

Please let me know if there's a certain laptop I should look into.

Also.. I'm looking for one under $1,000.

I dont know much about the computer at all actually. I just thought it would be cool to learn how to upgrade computers. I know i want to change the ram to 512 mb, also what else should i replace. So i just built myself a custom comp, courtesy of newegg, except it wont power up! when i turn on the main power supply, the indicator LED on the mobo lights up, but when i push the power button, my fans (including the CPU fan) click real quick and then stop, as though they wanted to start but something shorted them out right away. anyone know of something that might cause the comp to do this? I just recieved the parts a few days ago, so an RMA through newegg for DOA parts is no problem.

I paid some guys to do some work for me, and a bug has recently been found in the code they wrote. Now they're saying that it will cost me more for them to correct the issue, which is a result of something that wasn't done right the first time. Is that fair? One morning I got on my computer.For some reason it had restarted itself and went to a black screen that said please insert a disk or something like that. I restarted my computer about 20 times to finally get past that screen. Then it went to a blue screen and it said it had deleted weird things that I have never heard of. Before all of this happened my computer ran smoothly and I never had a problem like this. Now its really slow and when I try to play games on it, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds and the music behind it
skips. What can I do to stop this?
