Aperfect choice for you would be the Dell 1420. Just out with a durable alloy case in 8 color choices with all the options.

The Inspiron 1420 is an excellent all-around platform for the home user all the way through to what I would call the mobile power user. It offers a huge variety of options that allow you to customize the system to suit your needs.
Aside from being a bit on the hefty side with the optional 9-cell battery, there is very little not to like about the 1420. With a fast Core 2 Duo processor and a discrete graphics card courtesy of nVidia, it even has the ability to do occasional gaming, which is a very valuable talent to me and I’m sure it is so for many other professionals out there, young and old alike.
Hopefully this review has given you a good idea of what to expect and what not to expect when you receive your Inspiron 1420 from Dell. I have learned a great deal about my system in writing it and I hope you’ve learned more about yours as well.
And as there has been much discussion about the black lid being of a slightly different texture than the other colored lids, and its predilection to picking up fingerprints, I thought I would mention that the black lid does indeed easily pick up the oils from my skin.

I would suggest one of dell's new platforms either the dell 1420 or dell vostro 1400. Id prefer the 1420 for entertainment purposed and you can pick the specs that you want ... dont forget to search for a coupon code to save a couple hundred dollars

If you want a fast and somewhat inexpensive laptop Acer is the way to go.
A good laptop (this one has a slightly bigger screen than you wanted) is the Acer Aspire AS5100-3825. You can look at the specs with the url http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115361
It comes with vista home premium, though if you want to bust $150 on XP you can run XP on this system. It comes with a fast video card also so if you like to game. it has a dvd burner/player. It is $699.00 list price, but newegg gives you a $100 rebate (but you have to remember to mail it in!). I swear by acer and if the screen on this one is to big, you can go to acer's website http://global.acer.com/ and search their other products. you can also look at neweggs "acer store" here: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Brand.asp?Brand=1146&name=The-ACER-AMERICA-Store-at-Newegg
