So i just built myself a custom comp, courtesy of newegg, except it wont power up! when i turn on the main power supply, the indicator LED on the mobo lights up, but when i push the power button, my fans (including the CPU fan) click real quick and then stop, as though they wanted to start but something shorted them out right away. anyone know of something that might cause the comp to do this? I just recieved the parts a few days ago, so an RMA through newegg for DOA parts is no problem.

Additionally, i've tried removing all accessories from the mobo ad booting with just the psu, mobo, 1 ram stick, onboard video, and cpu, but no dice. Ive looked for potentials shorts on the board touching anything and dont see any obvious problems, but there could be something im overlooking there

If your PC won't even POST w/ the bare minimum set up, check this out:
1. CPU fan- reseat connector and be sure it is plugged into the cpu fan socket and not the system fan socket. The system needs to detect cpu fan rpm, otherwise, PC will stop in 2-3 seconds.
2. Heatsink - be sure it is installed properly such that it is not touching any other electronic component except the processor case or heatspreader.
3. Motherboard - try unscrewing the board from its mounting and power ON PC w/ the board not touching any metal part of the case.

It looks like your power supply is sensing an overload condition on one of the power rails and kicks in auto-shutdown (a safety feature).

Jump up and down twice, turn clockwise in a circle 3 times while saying "Nikki is the bestest and is certainly not a goober", then touch your nose and big toe simultaneously with your right and left thumbs before asking yourself what you would do if two muscular grapes walked into your bar.

=P Give it a whirl and let me know when it starts working.

Oh, hold up...you sure it's not something wrong with the power supply?

reset the cmos using the jumper on the motherboard and try failsafe default when you do get the bios to first appear
