There is a red x on PCI Device under Other Devices in my device manager and I dont know what it is. I'm pretty sure its not the graphics card because thats installed and working fine. As far as I know thats the only PCI device in there! It doesn't seem to be affecting my system but its bugging me all the same. Anyone know what it could be?

I am currently looking into buying a new video card to upgrade from my integrated Nvidia6100 and I would like a video card with DirectX10. I am planning on spending under $200.

For example:

Would I rather have a Nvidia 8500GTS with 256 MB with a Core clock speed at 675MHz and Memory Clock speed at 2000HMz
OR
Would I rather have a Nvidia 8600GT with a Core clock speed at 540MHz and Memory Clock speed at 667MHz?

Any recommended cards by the way? I'm planning to buy off of Newegg.com if that makes a difference.

What I mean is that I can hear my computer running and when I check the processes in the task manager it shows the rundll32.exe at almost 100% and my CPU usage is 100%.

This is slowing my computer and crashing it at times, as well as heating it up. If someone can help me I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

How close can you come to building your own robot from scratch if you have some programming experience but not much of anything else? I use the term "robot" loosely here- just something that like has a light that blinks or a motor that whirs if you press a button on it or something.

this is what happened. 2 weeks ago i had to reset my packard bell easynote r4622 windows xp sp2 to factory settings using the recovery boot disk i created from it a year ago. halfway through the recovery, something went wrong and it said that some files on the disc are missing and the laptop went and stuck in dos mode. now whenever i turn it on, all i get on the sceen is microsoft windos 98 followed by C:\> waiting for a command. i got the proper master recovery cd's from packard bell. i have tried these discs but the dvd drive won't read them and it just returns to the dos screen again. when i went in to the bio system and selected to read the discs, it says there is no bootable disc in the drive. i have also tried this with the original recovery disc and norton ghost bootable disc and that's all it keeps saying. i have put these discs in to my other laptop and there is nothing wrong with the discs as they all show ok. i have a usb dvd rom drive but won't work. any ideas?

appears and says this:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x00000008E (0xC00000005, 0x82E73E22, 0xF36B493C, 0x00000000)

Please what does this mean? Windows wasn't completely loaded, have no access to start menu. Can I fix this or is it complicated?

Im in a jam my computer has caught a bug. When I run spybot to search for problems it finds "virtumonde" and "smitfraud-c.toolbar888" it removes "smitfraud-c.toolbar888" but it always comes back and it can't get rid of the virtumonde even after a system restart. i can't restore my computer because I guess the virus took away all previous restore dates. The main thing happening is slow computer performance and my norton internet security software (currentley way outdated) keeps asking me to block these things trying to connect to the internet the things connecting are random number sequences such as 589156.exe and after a while there will be a ton of random number .exe's run in the background. Please help me if you can you don't even know how much it will be appreciated. Thanks a lot!
