How much weight; i.e. two-up, can a 1996 harley davidson 1200 xlc safely hold? I saw a couple other answers that are not specific. Any specifics would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly!

When a SportBike is twice as cheap, and has at least quadruple the performance. Harleys seem like a waste of money.

I have a 81 virago that sat for about 9 years. I push the start button and the oil level light comes on and the engine doesn't turn over. (chkd oil, its o.k.) So I hook the power straight to the starter and if both spark plugs are in, it turns a litlle bit then stops. Once I let off the juice and try again, it's the same thing. Without plugs it turns over fine, and with one plug ( it's a 2 cylinder) it will turn over but sounds kinda rough. Whichever cylinder the one plug is in, it will turn over, as long as both cylinders don't have the plug in. What could be wrong, and how do I fix it?

The chain, when the bike isn't running, has a slack of just over an inch (up and down.) I'd like it tighten it in case it comes off on the road- just trying to be safe.
What is the optimal tightness and how do I achieve this?
any input is appreciated,
thanks

I just bought an '03 Buell Blast - I've never ridden a motorcycle before (I've a friend giving me informal lessons - yesterday we covered starting and wide steering). Just got out in my apartment complex's driveway and did laps, staying under 20mph, concentrating on steering and starting.

However, I'm still new to listening to a motorcycle's engine (and my Buell doesn't have a tach, just a speedo), and would like to know a general 'speed range' guide for each of the gears (I'll start trying to shift from 1st to 2nd next time I'm with my friend).

It's a 94 sportster, never had any problem with it. I got a new bike and this one sat. When we charged the battery and tried to start it, the engine sounded bad, and it wasn't getting any oil. How could this happen if when I parked it it was running fine? What do I need to do to fix this?

can somebody tell me why people that ride Harley's never wave ?
Most people when passing another motorcycle in the opposite direction will wave as a sign of good day ride safe or whatever no matter what you ride except people on Harley's. I mean are they too good to be cool with everyone. Am I to believe that they all (harley riders) started on a harley.
Just curious.

Lightweight yet powerful 250cc 2-stroke road motorcycles such as the suzuki RGV250, Honda NSR250, Aprilia RS250 or Yamaha TZR250 aren't made anymore? Can someone tell me why this is? Is it something to do with emission laws? Is there technology available to make small capacity two-stroke motorcycle engines burn cleaner, or is it too expensive at present?

Just brought a new 2007 Ninja 250, the engine oil level was fine when they delivered it. After riding it at low speed (15 mph, still learning) for about 20 mile, i noticed the engine oil is completed gone from the little glass window thing. So i brought some Castrol 10W-40 and added about 1.25 qt, the level was fine. Just rode the thing for maybe another 30 mile and the oil level is below min line again. There's no leakage from what I can tell, is this normal? Does a new bike just soke up engine oil?

I had the front wheel off today and the bearing is completely frozen. It was stiff before and now won't move at all.

The thing is that I can't feel the stiff bearing at all when riding the bike. Is it safe to ride the bike (gsxr 750) for 2-3 weeks with the bearings in this kind of shape?

I was seriously thinking about buying a Harley-Davidson XL883C Sportster, but i looked at the Honda website today and saw a slightly less powerful Honda Shadow Spirit 750 (VT750C2) for over $1000 less money.

I love the nostalgia of Harley's, and i really couldn't picture anything else, but i am a college student, and i need to save money (not that i can't afford the Harley)

What i need to know, is it worth saving money to go with the Honda (which looks relatively similar to the Harley) or should i stay true to my first true desire. will i get and extra $1000 dollars worth of enjoyment from a Harley? Basically, which is more "Bike" for the money, and which is more respected and mutually accepted by the motorcycle community? (this is my first bike)

I am looking for a scooter 50cc to 250cc for on and off road fun. I want it to have extra big fat wheels. I remember in the early 1990's a guy i knew had a scooter i dont remember the brand it could have been yamaha, honda, or suzuki any way the scooter had realy extra big fat wheels like the ones on ATV's maybe a little smaller it looked cool and fun to ride. Does any one know of a scooter with big fat wheels on it or do you have to do some kind of conversion to a scooter to put extra big fat wheels on. All i see on the internet from the regular scooter companies are scooters with small thin wheels. The honda rucus is the only scooter i find with wheels a little bigger but i dont like the way it looks.
