My husband wants to get a motorcycle and i'm worried about the safety of riding motorcycles. There are a lot of accidents and we have a daughter and one on the way. I'm just curious if it's the crazy, unknowledgable riders who are crashing or if it is really a dangerous way of transportation. Thanks for any info.

I'm 17, obviously an inexperienced rider. I have a Ninja 250, blue, very nice actually. Anyway, my transmission WILL kick in to first from neutral and back to neutral from first, but from first or neutral to second it wont shift. (alittle confusing I know) I was thinking I either need to bleed out the clutch fluid and replace it, or I have a problem. Being 17 i dont know much, so i would like to hear from experienced riders.

I currently dont have a torque wrench but need to use my bike this week, which is before i can get a torque wrench..
So, when coming to put my clutch back on i found in the manual the torque settings for the 5 bolts, Now, this is what it says..

"tighten to a final torque setting of 0.3 - 0.5 kgf m (2.0 - 3.5 lbf ft)"

Now i have no idea what that really means, in the sense of how much to tighten it without the wrench, but does anyone know how i can tighten to this torque for the clutch spring bolts to be secured safely?

Thanks.

I want to get a motorcycle and learn how to ride. Is a Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200N(around 545lbs) or similar too heavy for a beginner? If it is too heavy, what is a weight I should be looking for?

So I've only had a tiny bit of riding experience, mostly coming from the MSF course and a parking lot. I go to pick bike up my bike from where I had it stored and on my way out the door I drop the helmet breaking the visor off and breaking a plastic piece of my helmet. Then I go to pick up my bike and when I get there the guy didn't leave it outside of the garage like he said he would so I have to go back home.

The next day I get my friend to ride it back to my place and all is well, that night I go out to start it and it won't start. The next day I go to start it and still nothing, finally I get it to start and ride it over my friends aparment.

Once I park it I notice gas is leaking. So now the bike is out of gas. I go to put gas in it and now it won't start at all and doesn't even sound like its trying to start. I check the battery and it is fully charged. Then I put my key in to remove the seat and the key breaks off!

I'm not one to have bad luck either, but what do you think?

After all the excellent suggestions to solve my previous problem of the brakelite not working, I took the first simple solution, and that was to replace the bulbs. Come to find out that both elements were burning. That indicated that the running lite and brakelite were both on. Right? So obviously there is a connection of some sort that is stuck. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I want to learn to do simple things on my bike myself if possible. All who helped with my previous question are welcomed to reply if you have a suggestion.

Hey, i have a bike with a motor that my dad put on it and he got it from this website.

I was wondering if I could use 2 cycle oil in it instead of synthetic 2 stroke that it says would be the only one that would work. I looked in two walmarts and an autozone for sythetic 2 stroke oil but can't find it. Does anyone know much about motor bikes?

I asked a previous question earlier. I want a motorcycle, but i dont have the upfront money. but easily can make the payments no problem. i went to the dealer and i couldn'tm get it because i have no credit and i recently moved to pennsylvania a week ago for school and everyone i know is in los angeles so, couldnt work that out.

my friend told me, that you can get a used bike from a private seller and work out a montly payment plan. He said his friend got his first bike that way.

is this true? and if so how can it be done? and how does the legal issues and stuff work like paperwork ?

I've got a gas-guzzling, muscle car (not the best commuter car!) that I bought when I was younger and didn't know any better. With gas prices still sky-high in the Bay Area, this is killing me!! I know nothing about motorcycles other than they're good on gas and they can get through traffic better than the boat that I'm driving. What would be the best for my size if I were to get a sport bike or a chopper/cruiser??

I have a crotch rocket with 180/55/17 rear. Looking for a good used rear for now. Anybody know of a site that sells used race tires? Just looking for something to get me through this month. It's getting stretched and lowered over the winter months so I will be going to a wider tire then. Thanks in advance

i have a 300ex that needs case machining to fit a big bore cylinder i bought, what all does this case machining entitle? i know the goal is to accomodate a sleeve with a larger O.D. but does this have to be done professionally or can it be done with a dremel or such as long as one is careful and doesnt get any metal shavings into the bottom end of the motor?
