The VN-750 was shaft drive (quiet, smooth, reliable, but heavy. A shaft is good for about 50,000 miles, before the components need replacing. About 96% efficient).

The VN-800 was chain drive (light, but dirty, snatchy and noisey. A chain on that bike is good for about 15,000 miles. At it's very best, a chain is only 90% efficient).

The VN-900 is belt drive (light, smooth, quiet, but susceptible to damage. Belts are good for about 30,000 miles. About 99% efficient).

Very much chain drive, the best way to transfer power to the rear wheel is by chain or belt. you have one of the best.
