I just bought a bike and I'm new to things... Anyway, as I was riding around I noticed that other riders stick their hands out and kind of down whenever they ride by me. I don't know why or what it means but it's got me really curious.

I have an 07 S40 with only 2000 miles and it backfires everytime I slow down without pulling the clutch in (so when I let off the gas without shifting). The salesperson said it is due to the single cylinder, is this correct or is there something bigger going on?

When I bought the bike it didn't smoke, however, it now smokes when cold and when going up hills when the engine is warm (white smoke, not blue). On reflection, the bike's 2 stroke oil tank was empty when i got it, but since having it serviced and the tank filled up it is smoking away happily... any liquid fix or simple mechanical cure?! It was built in 1993 so it is getting on. Thanks

A stylish helmet and leather ensemble? The Star Trek like force field emitted from ultra-loud exhaust pipes? Or praying and an unshakeable belief that Jesus will be mercible. Before I ride I need to know. Thank you kind people and play nice.

I have a 1986 Honda VT700C Shadow. I love the bike but it is not tall enough for me. Sitting on the bike, the distance to the forward controls is too close. I have not been able to find forward control extension for this bike (too old). I was thinking of building a new seat pan and raising the seating position up and back. How does one fabricate a custom seat?

I've gotten the motorcycle bug, and have been looking for a vintage 2 stroke 1 cyl bike as a project, and to learn to ride on. I found a 1970 Yamaha CS3-200 locally for $500. It looks great, new tires, starts right up and sounds good. The owner said sometimes it misses the shift between first and second. He said you can start it in second with a lot of gas or when you shift, you sometimes have to hit the shifter a couple times to get it to go in to second gear. Should I buy the bike with the intention of trying to fix this? The following site: http://www.mrcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp shows exploded views of all major systems, and has most parts for the shift mech. and tranny. I think it might be part of the shift mech. - parts #9, #10 on the diagram or thereabouts. Put in Yamaha, 1970, CS3 and go to SHIFTER to see exploded view. I'm very mechanically adept, but have never worked on a motorcycle, and can't find much on the CS3-200. Thanks in advance!

No dumb answers please. Here's the deal, my bike has an electronic sending unit on the front wheel that provided 23 pulses per mile. Those pulses provide signals for the mechanical odometer display, the trip computer and the digital speedometer. Here's the problem, the odometer is very accurate, the mileage and mph the trip computer displays is very accurate but the speedometer reads 10% fast. The speedometer isn't defective, all of this model came from the factory this way. Is there any way to correct the displayed speed without affecting the accuracy of the other units? What principle is used to count the pulses and convert them into a readout?

Its my first bike. Its a yamaha 2004 yzf-r6. I don't ride it really hard yet. the engine has about 11K miles on it but i've been told by someone with about 20 years motorcycle experience that everything on the bike seems ok and that it runs really well. I dont really know anything about the previous owner's maintenance history. any info would be good. I would like an answer from someone with 600cc sportbike experience. yeah... thats about it: how many miles/gallon should a bike like this be averaging?

All I have been able to find on the internet so far are manuals that must be purchased. Does anyone know a sight that gives out free directions online?
