When I bought the bike it didn't smoke, however, it now smokes when cold and when going up hills when the engine is warm (white smoke, not blue). On reflection, the bike's 2 stroke oil tank was empty when i got it, but since having it serviced and the tank filled up it is smoking away happily... any liquid fix or simple mechanical cure?! It was built in 1993 so it is getting on. Thanks

May need a top end rebuild - cylinder, piston & rings.
Running a 2 stroke without oil will wreck it.
Possibly leaking crankshaft seal, sucking oil from the transmission.
Check the crankcase oil level after each ride. If it keeps going down that could be the problem.

Just keep an eye on the crack case oil level. If it keeps dropping and you have to keep adding oil. The rings, piston, cylinder, has wear. An over haul.

You might try a hotter plug.

I would keep oil in it and keep riding till it drops.

Good luck

Take away it's lighter...

:)

Seriously, based on your description that it is worse when it's cold, I'd say clearances are pretty loose, particularly the cylinder bore. You could rebore, and replace the piston and rings...or just keep riding it till it dies, which could be a long time.

Check your gear oil level before and after riding. could be a bad crank shaft seal. If not, adjust your oil pump.
