How do I build a custom seat?

I have a 1986 Honda VT700C Shadow. I love the bike but it is not tall enough for me. Sitting on the bike, the distance to the forward controls is too close. I have not been able to find forward control extension for this bike (too old). I was thinking of building a new seat pan and raising the seating position up and back. How does one fabricate a custom seat?

have the seat up padded it softens the ride and lifts you up
Ive got harley owning friends who have done it their happier now
