I'm trying to figure out how to get the seat off so that I can get to the fuel tank better so that I can remove the petcock easier. Anyone know the trick to getting the seat off of a 98 honda shadow? or a place a could figure it out somehow?

You don't have to replace it, it's Japanese. You don't have to service those bikes ever. In fact, the seat probably doesn't come off because there is no reason for it to.

If I remember correctly you have to push back the padding on the front part of the seat to expose the bolt holding the seat down. I hope I am remembering correctly, I have had a few bikes and one of them was a 2000 Shadow Sabre.

Always give year, make, engine size and complete model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
Shadows come in different sizes and models.
VT1100T Shadow ACE Tourer.
The front seat.
A bolt on each side, near the back of the seat.

not sure on the answer, but I wonder if the censor the word petcock?
