D). All of the above in the USA.
Nothing beats a full face helmet, any good jacket with armour in it. Good boots. Oh, and yes, I say thanks to Jesus, after getting to my location safe. It has not hurt anything doing it that way....3.1 million people in vehicles in my town, so I pick the time and where I ride.
Have fun.

Stick to the leather. Always remember that the noise it behind you, and the faster you ride, the harder it is to hear in front.
Although an unshakable faith in Jesus is a good thing, remember that the Lord helps those who help themselves. If you won't make the effort, maybe He won't, either. So go get that leather!

none of the above.
dress like Rambo with a large automatic weapon strapped on your back & grenades across your chest, no helmet just a lot of wild hair & a psycotic grin on your face. NO exaust pipes just smoke & flames coming from under your seat . if you do this you will find cage drivers to be very courteous so you can just have a pleasant ride & not worry about accidents.
helpfull hint, jet your carb a little rich for red &yellow flames at low rpm & blue & white flames at full throttle.

Loud pipes won't stop people from pulling out in front of you, and there's already a large group of Jesus worshippers in the hospital, so that apparently doesn't work so good. Defensive driving skills, a good eye, sharp reflexes, and proper riding gear will help keep you in one piece to ride another day.

Actually none of the above...the most protection you will ever have, aside from never riding one of these wonderfully fun modes of transportation, is your own training, paranoia, will to survive and experience. I've ridden for nearly twenty years and have had only one accident requiring hospitalization (my own fault)...but I've had more close calls than I care to remember. When you ride, you have to become paranoid that everyone is out to kill you...because whether they realize it or not, they are! Everyday drivers are quite often callous, unobserving, selfish and more often than not just plain mean and stupid when it comes to use two-wheelerers. The more you know where you are, where they are, what they are doing, and what you are doing the better off you will be. And that comes with experience and training. Start by finding a class in your locality that offered or certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and sign up. You can find this information on the web or just by dropping by a dealer and asking if they offer or can recommend an instructor or class. After you pass and get your license, take things slow...try to find other riders who are willing to go with you (most often you will find more than you can shake a stick at). Go for short trips at first and gradually take longer ones...this gets you used to sitting in the seat for longer periods, and in the same position. But, going back to what you asked about protective gear and apparel, there are a number of quality products out there. Start by subscribing to MCN Motorcycle Consumer News. and read it cover to cover each month...it usually has A TRUCK LOAD of reviews of new products, apparel, safety equipment, etc.
Good luck, New Rider....and welcome to the great adventures of motorcycle riding!!!!!!

The ultra loud pipes only piss people off. Helmet and leathers are ok. But it's your brain and mindset that will do the most to keep you upright....

Leathers and a full-face helmet, as well as good boots & gloves, offer the best protection.
What sits in between your ears offers the best PREVENTION, though!

A healthy paranoia. Riding like the world is out to get you is the best protection.

#3 Question. In all things.
Keeping your head on your riding is also good while we are still in this world.
Hmm, do the shields come with photon torpedos? Because I know this road where....

Go with the gear.
You can pray anytime, anywhere. Before, during and after, if you like.
Most anything called "Ultra" is really useless.
I won't do the argument, I see points on BOTH sides.
