in pennsylvania it gets pretty cold. in the teens a lot of the winter at night. i ride all year long as long as the roads are clear of ice and snow. i dress warm and i use the choke to start the bike.
get a good set of gloves, lined jeans, chaps, heavy leather jackes, face mask. remember about wind chill factor when riding in the cold. there are web sites that have them. 40 degrees is a lot colder when riding at 50 mph.

Isn't the phrase "Florida winters" an oxymoron? If it actually DOES get into the 30's, you warm-bloods may want to just stay inside. The wind chill will kill you.

Here in Colorado, my cutoff is about 20 degrees; that's about the point where a 10-mile commute actually gets painful from the cold, even when wearing insulated clothing and multiple layers.

But since I've never "stored" my bike longer than a month (last year we got DUMPED on!), I couldn't really say what to do other than put some Sta-Bil in the tank and run the engine, and hook up a battery trickle charger.

Folks, go easy on the guy. I'm in the midwest, but I've spent winters in Florida on my bike. It's a damp cold and goes right through you, especially at night. Send that guy in Colorado out at night in damp, 38 degree temps and he'll think that mid 20's Colorado weather isn't so bad after all. Get a leather jacket and wear a hooded sweatshirt under it. You don't have to wear the hood, but it'll help keep your neck warm. The warmer you keep your body, the warmer your fingers will stay.

You Florida boys have it rough. We ride up here when it gets down in the 20s at night and think we have a heat wave if it gets to 35 in the daytime. Enjoy the ride man use all year.

Bbrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Just kidding.
Dress warm, use layers.
Watch for the wind chill. That's what'll get you.
