I've got a 99 Ford Ranger 2.5L 4 Cyl. with a manual tranny. When I go to shift gears it is really difficult, sometimes requiring all my strength to force it into 1st gear. It doesn't grind at all, it just really doesn't want to go from neutral to 1st. What's wrong? Is it the clutch, a bad transmission? The synchros? Help me out here cause I'm a poor college student and have to use my money wisely.

What is this, and are they related? Grinding seemed very "deep" and sounded awful! I had to drive over 200 miles on it today for work (mainly highway) and could not pull over because I would have been stuck in the middle of nowhere!

The car is a 2001 Infiniti QX4; bought it brand new and never had any problems with it before. It has less than 50,000 miles on it.

I made a service appointment for Monday (about 15 miles away) and will not drive it till then. I'm worried about how much it will cost to fix, since the warranty has expired already. Hundreds? Thousands? Any info or insight on the problem and cost would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I saw a 1200 hp at wheels supra with a twin turbo,
But I read that twin turbos just provide boost in more
rpm ranges instead of more power in one range.
Which one is it?

I'm not sure why this happens. Can anyone explain? One mechanic said it was my engine mounts but he didn't do a thorough check so i'm not sure about what he's saying. If it were the engine mounts wouldn't my entire car be shaking when I was driving? This only happens when I turn on my air conditioning.

At my shop today, we got a customer with an ac issue, he spent 450 dollars on both ac lines and evac and recharge. On his way home from that shop, the ac quit blowing cold. He came to me today and requested for me to change the evaporator and expansion valve, I gave him a counter quote for 675.00 installed ( 96 Honda Accord ) 4 cyl. We did a temp check first, granted its 105 here in Arizona today, his temp out the vents was 80 at nine this morning when it was already over 90 outside. Gauges read correct, the other shop did put correct amount of freon in the vehicle. We turn the climate know left for cold, right to left, seems the doors are opening and closing. After we did what he requested, the temp was blowing 60-65 at initial start up then climbed to 70 (which is better than 80) but it still wasn't 50-55. What could the problem have been? I do have the answer but I want to hear what kind of shade tree information / input I get from this. Again the readings were perfect checked twice

Is there a way not to remove the caliper but to swing it out of the way? If not. I see two bolts holding the caliper and brake shoe assembly in place are those the ones I need to remove the caliper. I know how to get the rotor off after that
. Thanks

I have a few cars I would like to rotate the tires on, but I wanted to check and see if something I heard about was true. I heard that radial tires need to stay rolling in the same direction because of something inside the tire that will cause it too wear faster if it changes directions. I don't know the details I just want to know how to rotate my radial tires.

1993 Chrysler Concorde. When driving, the instrument lights dimmed, the (after market) radio died, and the ABS light came on. A few seconds later, the ABS light went off and the radio came back on. About a minute later the car died and would not start, but it started normally about an hour later.

Testing with a voltmeter, I get around 12V across the battery when the car is off. When the car is running, the voltage across the battery slowly drops until it hits about 8.5V at which time the car dies. After sitting for awhile, the battery will be at 12V again and the experiment can be repeated.

I replaced the battery, and had the alternator tested at an auto parts store. It checked out ok. Any ideas?

I have a 1992 Mercury Sable that wont turn over completely and start. The battery tests between 13 and 14 volts and the starter will try to turn over the engine but it seems like it is straining. The more I try to start the car the more it will turn over (if this makes any sense). After about 5 to 8 times, the starter will turn over the engine and it will start. The battery still tests between 13 and 14 when it is running but, when I turn it off, it wont start again. Any thoughts?

Like Lucy used to say,"And you call your answer'English'"? There is another pertinent statement, "Who knows a lot, tries to find out more. Who knows nothing tries to teach others." This is applicable to your attempts to teach me English without any knowledge of the subject of your own.

My car is a 1999 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder.

I brought in a failed emissions report with a code on it to the auto shop. I looked up the code online and found out it had something to do with the park/neutral safety switch. I told them about it but they said it would cost $105 just for the diagnostic. Sure enough, about 4 hours later they call me and say it has something to do with the neutral/park safety switch and that it'll be $495 total to fix it.

The guy that called said it was because the part was rare and that it's only available from a Toyota dealer, said it was about $300. I really have no idea what these things go for, and I can't seem to find it anywhere online either. I found some other make neutral/park safety switches for a couple dollars, but I'm hoping that's something different.

Anyone know anything about these safety switches? Are they really this expensive to replace?

Thanks so much for any help guys.

Hi

I was at a parking lot today and noticed something on my tire. On my front left tire there is a mark that looks like someone tried to slash it. The cut is not deep (about 1/3 cm deep, and 1/2 cm wide) and is about a foot long. There is metal (ring mail type) showing underneath, but only the outer layer of the tire is actually cut.

I was wondering how long you think the tire could last. I don't know how long its been there (no more than 2 weeks). Its on the outer edge of the tire and does not take the full force of the cars weight like the center of the tire would. How long do you think I could drive? Should I get it eplaced immediately?

I was thinking of getting all 4 tires replaced soon anyway and was wondering how much it would cost for all 4 tires. I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra.

Thank you.
