Not to the CAR, no. To the TIRES, yes. Long as you have the receipt in your name that you paid for the tires, you could get legal reimbursement for them, technically. But the car, if you don't own the title, you don't own the car, no matter HOW many parts ( or tires ) you buy to fix it. Now, a licensed Mechanic can get a LIEN on a car for work done to it ( ie, installing parts ) that the customer doesn't pay for. I don't know if he can get one issued once the car leaves his possession, though, but if the customer can't or won't pay the bill, the car can be held, auctioned off, etc. to pay the bill (properly done). THAT is legal. Not sure if an individual has the same right, or just a business. But you only have a small technical right to be reimbursed for the tires if there was a prior understanding. If you're under-aged, not sure how much legal reimbursement you could get, or even be entitled to.

Just guessing but whomever the name on the title is probably who legally owns the car. However, the morally right thing for them to do would be pay for the tires.

The legal owner of the car is the person whose name is on the title. If you are contributing to the upkeep of the car...and want to make arrangements to make payments on the car, maybe you can eventually purchase it and et the titl n your name.

Did you burn the old tires off? Then you should have to pay for them. Obviously your underage and cant get your own car. So you'll just have to deal with it til your 18.
