I'm not sure why this happens. Can anyone explain? One mechanic said it was my engine mounts but he didn't do a thorough check so i'm not sure about what he's saying. If it were the engine mounts wouldn't my entire car be shaking when I was driving? This only happens when I turn on my air conditioning.

the ac belt is turning when the ac is on or off but when you turn the ac on the compressor clutch cycles on and off normal cycle time is 10 seconds off 10 seconds on (generally speaking)I would be checking for a siezed up compressor first open the hood and turn the ac on see if the clutch is spinning when the ac kicks on.the compressor could be seized up.

Could be a cracked or broken motor mount; the fact that it doesn't happen except when you put on the A./C is not necessarily proof that it is NOT an engine mount problem. When you turn the A/C on, that puts additional strain on the engine, which might cause it to shudder when it wouldn't ordinarily do so. I'd have the car put on a lift and the mounts checked, just to be certain.

I had on '01 Galant. It is a pretty decent little car, good acceleration and never had a mechanical problem when I had it. Just keep it clean and waxed and it will look like a cool(ish) car. Maybe change out the factory hub caps for some chrome rims if you really want to draw attention to yourself. Although most of that attention will probably come from theives.

No, when you turn on your A/C it takes alot of power from your motor to obtain, and your motor mounts are a metal loop surrounded with rubber, when the rubber goes bad, the motor shakes, could be alittle or just on the A/C.

Motor mounts?
I doubt it.
More likely the idle control is not compensating for engine power draw and your idle is very low.

Have your idle speed checked with A/C on, and A/C off.
They should be the same.
Around 900 RPM

It could be the clutch on the air conditioning is going bad. Take it to a reputable mechanic to give you the diagnosis for free.

check the air conditioner mounts. maybe they are loose. maybe the shaft insde the ac that holds the pully on is bent or unbalanced. maybe the a/c is junk.
