I give the the truck gas and it stops. I have had the truck for four years. 2001 F150 w/76000 miles. New belt and some belt dressing out of frustration. Tensioner is plenty tight still. Fluid is full. Gear box is coated in rust, looks like the rust that gets on something freshly grinded on and left out over night. Gear box has hose coming from it that covered in oil buildup, no known leaks from engine to explain the oil on the hose. Is my gearbox going bad? It looks like it has been replaced to me. How can I check to see if the gearbox is bad or if the pump is bad?

Tonight I went out to my '99 Toyota RAV4, turned it on, turned on the headlights, and the temperature console did not light up inside the car. Everything else lit up, just not the part where you choose the temperature and where the air blows. The A/C button right next to the console was lit, but the console itself wasn't. What could this be? Thanks!

Hello,

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu with 75,000 miles. I have never had any service on my Transmission. I noticed that there should have been preventative maintenance around 50,000 miles for the automatic transmission. I am not experiencing any transmission problems yet, however, during my oil change today the mechanics showed me my transmission fluid. It was about as black as the oil was. They told me that it was extremely dirty, and that I should have the transmission flushed.

They suggested: Change the transmission filter and have all new fluid put in via a transmission flush. I have read horror stories about transmission flushes that yield a broken transmission. This is usually due to deposits and junk in the transmission that get disloged and then stuck in another part of the transmission during the flushing.

Should I get the filter and fluid changed, or should I do this transmission flushing, or both? The quote was $250 for a new filter, fluid and flush.

Thanks

1991 s-10 with a 4.3 v6. Test light across negative terminal on battery to cable has a dead short. Short is worst with ignition switch to run. With off a slight short is still there which I can make go away by removing radio. I have checked ground and is good to block and chassis. Big short goes away when the wires (3 that bolt to terminal on back) of alternator are removed, but still present when wires are touched together without being on alternator. The wires go to the ignition switch, and the battery. I took apart the ignition switch and cleaned, no luck. I have full wiring diagrams and have traced wires to no avail, everything I check has no resistance. I know there is a short to ground, I know that it affects many cicuits (it started with the door jamb switch). The brake lights , the headlights, the cruise control switch, the radio, the dimmer switch, and the alternator is affected. I am very capable at tracing wires/ fixing shorts, but I am stumped. Any suggestions?

I have a newer car that is a stick shift and Ive been having problems with the car. I was driving to work one day and it started to get harder and harder to put into gear. So I tried the pump the pedal about a million times to see if it would be easier to put into gear. It didn't work so I ruled out the master cylinder. So I think its the slave cylinder but now im not so sure because now that I got it home there is no pressure on the pedal and it sticks to the floor. I can pull it back up so now Im confused is it the slave or the master cylinder?

started to blink. When I bought the truck, I had it checked and no problems at that point. Well My Ext Warranty (Penn Auto Warranty) only offered me 725.00 towards a USED Tranny ONLY. My Tranny Mech offered to rebuild mine w/ new electronics for an addt'l 1900.00 I feel that is reasonable, soit's being done as we speak.
My question is : What can be done under the NY Lemon Law for me?

I'm getting a used car soon and would like to know what can go wrong with a car that would be the most expensive to repair. I plan on keeping at least $1,000 in my bank account at all times just in case my car breaks down. I hope that will be enough for any major repair.

The motor scooter is a 2007 Chinese Roadrunner I-Scooter. With a new battery the turn signals flash and the horn sounds properly. It starts with the switch on the first turn. It has a generator. However the battery goes dead. It only kick starts then. The lights are dim and the horn barely makes a sound. The lights brighten a small amount with speed. However the horn and the trun signals still do not work properly. Suggestons as to the problem and the fix.

I have a '77 standard Beetle, and wanted to avoid buying anything to lower the front. I know that it is possible to lower the rear by pulling the spring plates off the torsion bars and rotating them one or two splines, and it seems that one should be able to do the same with the front torsion bars. Any ideas?

I have a '03 Pontiac Grand Am GT and all three of those lights came on at the same time. What could be the cause of that? Someone told me it might be a sensor. If that is the case, how much will that cost to repair. If it could be anything else, what might it be and how much? thanks

2000 Ford Focus. 140,000 miles.

Car sputters, then dies (twice now), on the freeway. It has restarted both times after a short wait. She is almost to Salt Lake, and would like to get it fixed here before continuing on her way.

What are the most likely problems, do you think? I realize that without getting under the hood, it is probably much tougher, but what do you think? I have my opinions, but I would like to hear from others.

Thank you!

my engine recently over heated and had smoke coming out from the bonnet, and when i looked inside i noticed that the tank you fill up with water for the radiator (excuse my lack of technical terms) was completely empty. I filled it up, but the minute i turn the engine on and just leave it running, within 2 minutes the water level rises and starts coming out the top (instead of draining into the over flow pipes) and then it starts smoking (and im worried the pressure of the water might make the lid to this tank explode. However, when i drive the car, or sit and rev the engine, the water just totally drains out of it. There is no leak, so no idea where the water is going or why. So im able to drive the car for short distances as long as i carry water to top it up again....but cant leave the engine running and sit still in it for longer than 2 mins. Does anyone know what the problem is???

Hi! I have a 1996 Chevy Lumina, and lately I've been hearing a deep, rattling sound coming from the back end every time I drive over bumpy pavement and dirt roads. Some of the roads around our neighborhood have been torn up due to construction - they're re-doing the road. It's now a potholy, bumpy dirt road and it's wreaking havoc on my suspension. I recently took the car in to have the brakes done, and I asked them if there were any parts back there that were rattling. They shook the major parts and couldn't find anything rattling, but they said my struts were shot. Does this sound like it may be the problem? How much do you estimate it would cost to fix?
