I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier pickup with which I tow a 26' travel trailer. I would like some info on a transmission cooler and if this is something I should look into.

Thank you

When it comes to automatic transmissions, HEAT kills em. towing generates more heat so you really should add a cooler, it's a no brainer if there ever was one

If you are towing with a vehicle that has an automatic transmission, you should consider fitting an additional cooler to keep the transmission oil from overheating or changing its viscosity. Extra loads on any vehicle over and above those it was designed to withstand need to be allowed for.

yes, you should probably add a transmission cooler if it's an automatic transmission and your towing something (even if your not). they are rated by the size of your vehicle (and also, what will fit), and what you are towing (somewhat).

basically, if you have an automatic transmission, it's a good idea to have a trans cooler (but do not bypass the one in the radiator), if you tow anything or not, it can't hurt!!

If your truck came with a towing package, you may already have one. If not, it is definetly a good idea. You can get one at any parts store, in the size you need for the weight of your load. They are easy to install in front of the radiator and come with the fittings and hoses you need to do the job.

YES you should !! Get the largest one you can get for the size radiator that you have ! Keep the transmission fluid changed on a regular basis - especially if you tow alot .

Hi there

go to ebay, type in oil coolers

you will find loads of them.
fit at least a 13 row cooler

your present oil cooler is routed to the bottom of the rad then returns out of the bottom of the rad to the auto box.
break into the return line, fit the oil cooler in this line then return it to the auto box.

just done mine, total cost £60 time taken 3 hours start to finish

Your transmission is going to be operating better demanding to tug the load. evaluate how a lot you'd be spending in gas for this vacation. in simple terms $2 hundred is a incredibly paltry quantity once you concentration on the fee of a sparkling transmission.

the transmission cooler is hooked up to the radiator. The trans fliud is then cooled by the radiator.( the air cools the water and trans fluid)it only should cost about 100 dollars and worth it.

If its an automatic and you intend to tow for long distances/large gradients then a cooler will help. If its a manual, don't worry.
