In my 2003 Ford Mustang, I have already gotten a power steering flush and my car still makes the whining noise. What is wrong with it and what should I do? Help!!!!!!!!!1

How much would it be to replace the power steering pump?

I have already replaced my belt and even a pulley so I don't think that replacing a belt would work. Im thinking it has to do with the power steering pump.

Typically, this is caused by one of 2 things: a) the belt is old and may have grease on it, making it slide around the wheel w/o actually turning it, and; b) the belt is loose and squeals as you apply pressure when turning. Usually, changing the belt will do the trick. You can also apply a spray you can get at Auto-Zone, Pep Boys, Wal-Mart, etc., that is designed to stop the squeal. If you've changed the belts and it still squeals, there may be grease and grime on the pulley and wheel that the belt turns.
Ditch the Lucas oil, if you're losing fluid, use brake fluid. Just add about 1/4-1/2 cup of into the reservoir and it will lube the seals and rings much better than anything out there. If it continues to leak, then see a mechanic. The brake fluid will not, I repeat, will not damage the pump or parts (little known secret I've used on my foreign cars for years when they get ancient- which they all have been). Brake fluid was recommended by my mechanic years ago.
Finally, wash the engine out at a car wash- just put a towel over the distributor cap in the winter to prevent moisture from forming inside) and wash it out at full spray every 3-5,000 miles. This keeps oil off of hoses and belts, allows the engine to run cooler in summers, and lets you check for leaks easier.
Finally, power steering pumps don't squeal when they're going out, they make a unique sound that sounds nothing like a squeal. If this all fails, then do consider the pump. You can always get a salvaged one (mustang drivers tend to wreck their cars a lot!) from a junk yard for <$100.

Ok. A little more specificity is called for. Is it an actual whine or a loud squeal? You say it occurs both upon acceleration and when turning. This leads me to believe it is actually a squeal. This would be the belt. If it was something to do with the actual pump, it would be more of a growling type sound. To do check that, pull the cover off the reservoir and quickly turn the steering wheel from side to side with the engine running. See what happens at the reservoir. This is actually a two person operation. One needs to be turning it lock to lock side to side while the other looks. Is it bubbling or foaming? Or does the return look air free? Is there any noise when you have the engine idling and you just turn the wheel slowly, or just start to turn it? I keep coming back to the "accelerate" part of your description. It actually sounds like a belt issue. Check it. See if it is badly cracked or looks shiny. If either, replace it. Also, check the tensioner. If it is an adjustable one, tighten it some.

It could be the power steering pump going out. or it could just be a little low of fluid. It's not real uncommon for a Ford power steering pump to do this. Usually it's not really loud, but could still hear it. But if it's really making noise then have it changed before it leaves you stranded.

Fords are infamous for this noise and as long as you can stand the noise and, the pump reservoir is full & functional then go for it. Now if is giving you some issues mechanicially such as shuddering or puling while steering than you may consider a new pump.

Power Steering pump is whining. Treatment is to add power steering fluid and see if it quits. If not you may need a new pump. Go to a auto parts store like Advance or Autozone....they can steer you in the right direction (hehe).

Sounds like the power steering pump may be going bad. Or, you are turning the wheel to far.

Your belt might be loose or worn!?!
it's a cheaper fix than a pwr steering pump! Hope it's just something silly like that. Good luck!

Power steering pump is worn. Lucas makes a additive that has worked for me.
