I'm getting a used car soon and would like to know what can go wrong with a car that would be the most expensive to repair. I plan on keeping at least $1,000 in my bank account at all times just in case my car breaks down. I hope that will be enough for any major repair.

The driver.
Other than that, you can spend 2 grand on a used engine or rebuilt transmission.

If you buying a cavalier or other common car you can get lots of parts used and save. So the $1000 should be fine. If you are buying and Toyota or other that parts are way more but tend to last fine. To be honest I buy cars with low mileage or over 100000 as most parts will probably have been replaced. I seem to have truoble between 65000 and 95000 when it comes to repairs. But things can break at any time.

i know hardly anything about cars, but what i do know is the transmission is the most. if that goes out then you will be coming out more that $1000.00. anything dealing with the engine/motor will cost you. make sure you get your car checked up on often oil changed every three months. tune-ups and aliments. if you keep your car up and washed it will last longer and ride smoother.. good luck.
