it has a 2 foot wire as antenna(18 or 20ga.)

the remote is ok the receiving unit is weak. i have longer range when the hood is up

You'll have to try to position the wire vertical, or as vertical as possible, at leased higher from its previous position, or way from harnesses, and away from areas where you know metal or any objects would interfere with the signal. If its still weak, try repositioning it . Hope you fix it.

Hold the remote up to the bottom of your chin when you press the button...your body acts as a large antenna. Otherwise, you'd have to boost the power of the remote somehow.
