I have a hydraulic winch with 24 volt solenoids that i have hooked to 12 volts the winch works fine,is there any possability of damaging the solenoids by only running 12 volts through them?

Also the winch motor is straight fluid drive the solenoids only route the fluid for forward or reverse. and as i stated the winch runs perfect as of now.

Nope.

Well, maybe the terminal contacts inside might not make good contact and burn out prematurely inside the solenoid.

I'm just curious. Is the winch motor 24 volt too?
If it is, it will burn up fast due to higher amp draw.
(it's hard to explain)

Oh, OK.
You "should" be OK for now. But it's still not quite right.
The spool valve in the hydraulic manifold may stick in one position or the other.
Just be VERY careful. You may not be able to disengage it sometime in the future.

24 Volt Solenoid

yes it will, the good thing about a 24 volt solenoid is that it will work on either voltage, but you cant take a 12 volt solenoid and use it on a 24 volt system it will burn it up instantly, eventually a 24 volt solenoid will get weak, but it will work good for a long time, you can under power a solenoid, but you cant over power one, basic electronics gives that one away ,good luck with it hope this helps.

My husband is an electrician, from what iv learned from him, anything either a motor, lamp, anything that is supplied voltage is made to work at that rating +or- 3% u will burn it out quicker then it is intended. Over voltage and under voltage will do harm either way, may not be immediately but over time it will crap out.
