I have a 1990 Ford Ranger 2.9L V-6 that I've changed the timing chain on. Now the problem is getting it started so that I can check the timing and set it. I've put the #1 cylynder TDC and made sure rotor was pointing to the #1 pin on the distributor cap. Also had to bypass the inertia switch. everything checks out and everything went by the book on rebuild and tear down. When trying to start it it acts like its trying to seize up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a 1990 GMC Suburban and would like to know if there is a way to check the oil pump or the oil pressure. My gauge has started reading no pressure all of a sudden but the truck still rides great. At first it would drop when I stop at a light and go back up when I drive but now it just says 0 on the oil gauge. I have been told that it is the oil pump but I would like to check the pressure first. Can someone help me?

I am getting a chevy 350 engine this weekend and was wondering what will i have to do to make sure i am not picking up a piece of crap. ALL i know is that, it is the block and the heads, thats it. not sure if it was running before it was removed from the previous car. called a engine machine shop and they told me that they will check the crank and see what i have.dont they have to do a compression test or something like that? is there anything else i can do, and what should be my next step. would like to build the engine up, but not sure where to start after picking it up.

put new battery on it , made sure starter turns, it turns motor over when I put hot wire directly to starter. Can't get it to turn over with using the key. what is more likely the starter switch or the starter solenoiod? I get light on tester coming on when I touch every wire on the solenoid. I am thinking that is it. thanks for the help

I never heard of this, until my father in law said something about releasing it every so often. I'm afraid to touch it!! But is there something I should do to keep it in good condition for a time when I might really need to use it?

My question is... my car stopped moving, but it was still running, it was still able to be started when it arrived at the dealership. My question is... if it was so "bone dry" out of gas... why did my car start?? Dont you have to have gas in order for the vehicle to start??

About 3 weeks ago my "service engine soon" light came on. Got it checked out, mechanic couldn't find anything wrong and reset it. Now the light has gone back on and the spedometer has quick working (stays on 0 while I drive) and mileage reader isn't even recorder my mileage. It is stuck.

Also the main problem is that it takes a long time for it to change gears while I drive. The RPMs go as high as 4000. Sometimes it switches gears and sometimes not. I have to drive so slow until it switches gears. It keeps revving up so high I am scared to drive it.

What could it be and how much to fix it. It is automatic.

I have a 95' Chevy Caprice that has been in storage for the winter. I started the car up every week or so and revved the engine while it was in storage. Now that winter is over I attempted to take the car out for a cruise. The engine started and revved fine, I put it in gear and with the slightest push of the gas the engine would quickly die. I have no clue what it is, I was thinking it was the mass airflow sensor. Please let me know if you if you think you know the problem! Thanks!

I drive a 1989 Toyota Camry v6 4Speed Automatic,
I want to use the overdrive button to the benefit of my fuel efficiency (saving gas)
1) Do I leave it on Overdrive all the time?
2) What about driving in the city (stop and go traffic)?
3) When do I turn Overdrive off? (When I stop completely? or can i turn it off while the car is moving?)
4) When do I turn Overdrive on? (Do I wait till i hit the 40mph mark, and shift to overdrive from my D (3rd gear)? Or can i simply start w/ Overdrive at 0mph (acceleration is slow though)?

Thanks in advance

My car was running fine, and then I got an oil change. When I was driving home my engine started making a clunking noise. I pulled over and when the wrecker came they checked my oil and said I was dry. They put 3 quarts in and towed my car. This morning they called me and said over night I overflowed 2 quarts. What happened to my car?

I have converted virtually everything on my 1992 Mercedes to synthetic;engine, tranny, A/C pump, and power steering fluid.

I read one person who stated NOT to change the differential to synthetic, such as the 75W-90 I bought for my car.

Can anyone tell me a reason why/or why not I should do this?
