My car was running fine, and then I got an oil change. When I was driving home my engine started making a clunking noise. I pulled over and when the wrecker came they checked my oil and said I was dry. They put 3 quarts in and towed my car. This morning they called me and said over night I overflowed 2 quarts. What happened to my car?

something is fishy it sounds like at first they didn't put the cap back in your oil pan, and aliens came in and put oil in it at night

These worthless and careless places are famous for not removing the oil filter gasket from the old oil filter. Double gaskets either blow completely out or leak like heck. The filter may not have any gasket at all. The pan bolt may be loose or they stripped the threads when re-installing the pan plug.

I could type all day about my non trust in these joints. In the future do it yourself or go to a dealer who sells your car. Any new car dealer has more qualified people working for them than the fast, quick, slick, oil change goober places.

Something appears to be blocking the oil's ability to drain back into the pan. it is loading up in the upper part of the engine, leaving the pan starved (empty) for oil and SLOWLY draining back in. It would help if I knew more about the kind of car, motor, etc.
First thing I would have them do is put a different oil filter on it. the one that is specifically for your car. it is possible that your system operates that way.
I always go backwards... usually the last thing that was changed is what was at fault.
try that... good luck

Don't know what type car you have. On some cars the oil goes in the valve cover, if you don't keep your oil changed it builds up sludge. The sludge blocks the drain holes to the crank case, stopping or causing oil to drain to crank case slowly. you may have had three or four quarts in the crank and overnight the oil they added drained down showing it to be past full.
