I agree, this is most likely the shocks, however, if it happened quickly, it may be your wheel balance as well. Wheel balance will cause it to bounce in the same area as it goes round. You should also lube your steering and ball joints while your under there.

I had a boss with the same problem on her car. later found out it was the shocks allowing the tire to bounce ever so slightly on the road threby cupping the tires. can I prove that is the problem with your car no but it might get you a lead in the right direction.

Tires cup in the middle when air pressure is too low.

Low tire pressure results in cupping in the center of the tread.Look at a tire wear chart at any place that sells tires and it will show you pictorially,the results of over-inflation ,under-inflation ,worn parts ,bad alignment, and so on.This information is good to know and has not changed in a century of driving on pneumatic tires.

Take it to a tire shop and replace the tires, they can tell you what is wrong with your car. Don't be surprised if they tell you the shocks need replacing.

have your tires rotated at a shop, they'll then check for wear, balance the tires, and if they notice any problems with the shocks/struts, they will inform you.

I'd say cheap tires, the tread is probably seperating. If it's the front tire, this could easily cause you to lose control, when the tire blows, not if it will, when it does.
