I have a 1996 3.8L V6 Camaro RS. I am told that straight piping the exhaust will slightly increase horsepower and gas mileage. What other effects come with straight piping other than it being loud?

It's been suggested by people here on Answers that my leaky tranny may only need something as simple as a new seal and some sealant. Sure that sounds cheap if I was doing the fix myself. But if I drive into a tranny shop, they're not going to agree with what I think, they'll want to get me for a rebuild. Outside of having a personal friend in the tranny business how do you get exactly and only what is needed?

The car hasn't been started for a while. And it had no oil in it.I gave it a fresh bottle of oil, checked the level and drove off. After a while,i noticed a small trail of what looked to be white smoke coming out from under the hood.I figured i might have spilled some oil on the exhaust manifold and ignored it.The smoke kept getting denser by the minute.Just as i was pulling over to check it out, steam started gushing out through the ventilation ports, casette player, and any openings in the dash. When i opened the hood, the steam was bellowing out from the water tank (ya know, where you put the cooling water in)like a gheyser. It was NOT boiling, but there was steam coming out from the tank at pressure.I DID notice the radiator fan wasnt' spinning as fast as the fanbelt driving it,but i doubt that's to blame, since i was moving and therefore, air was going through the radiator. What is wrong????

PS. I parked the car and didn;t touch it for 2 weeks.when i checked it out,all the oil had leaked out.

The car isn't in bad shape for the year, less than 100k on it. But I get nervous when I go to a mechanic and he blows up the price. My dad just got this car for me and I'm in college and am not a mechanical engineer. Help would be great. Thanks.

5.3v8 automatic silverado using tow function button, 75 mph. is it ok to use the cruise control?? Overdrive?? You hear so many myths. What is the truth? All I get is the run around no straight answer from my dealership. You see, its under warranty to they are pretty indirect with their answers. My full towing capacity is 7500 lbs.

Okay, I asked this question last night and didn't realize how much detail was needed. Like I said... I have no clue on cars. I was driving and my friend mentioned... sounds like your bearings are going out. It makes a little clicking noise and sometimes is hard to shift. I'm guessing he is talking about the bearings dealing with the transmission? (It is a manual) So.... anyone have a diagnosis.... does it need immediate attntion? Cost?

*Its a 2000 model

It is not the flimsy kind. That layer peeled off easily. This lookes to be about 3 more layers and the only way I can get it off is by scraping it with a knife.

Ok so my boyfriend timing belt went out on his truck. He says it's going to take a month or two to fix it.

But for some reason, I don't believe him. It seems like he's just saying that so he doesn't have to be with me for awhile.

So how long does it normally take to fix a timing belt?
(his truck is a '93 s10)

They all vary in size depending on wheel nut size but all fit the same square connector on the spanners that you use to remove wheel nuts, Just want to know what they are called. Thanks.

I just bought a 2000 accord and thus far haven't had problems with it but today we had a huge rain storm and I had to drive through some standing water on the way home...now the car is making a squealing type of sound when I accelerate. What could this be caused by? Husband suggested that I let the car dry out overnight and see if that fixes anything but could this be a serious problem? All the belts are brand new so I don't think this would really be causing it. Thanks:)

*EDIT* If it is the belts slipping will this stop after it all gets dried out?

Is it bad to turn your engine in your car on or off with the air conditioning, heat and/or radio powered on? I have always turned the fan off and the power to the radio and other things off before shutting off my car. My husband thinks I am crazy, but I have heard that leaving these things on is bad on the alternator.

Anyone know?

My service engine light came on on my Honda Accord, I did an electronic scan and the code P1739 popped up. I looked up the code online and it read "Automatic Transaxle Concerns". Could anybody tell me what this means and what needs to be done?
