if i buy a new engine block and piston and rings would that work? or should i buy a new engine? what would you do if you were in my shoes?

i would replace the head as well

it depends on what you mean by blown. If the block is cracked, the engine cannot be repaired. Basically it depends on what caused the damage and how much of it was caused. A fully blown engine will have to be replaced

It will be better and cheaper to sell it to the scrap dealer and buy an entirely new engine. Sorry but no mechanic I have ever talked to likes or woould even suggest trying to salvage a blown motor to working condition depending on what you are driving you may be better off buying a new car altohgether and sending the old car to the junk yard via the tow truck.

It wouldn't make much sense to put old heads of questionable condition on a new block. Spend the extra few hundred and get the long block.

i would replace the whole motor. a little more money, but less work (if you are doing it yourself as whole engines come assembled). that way, you are not putting worn out parts on a new (or rebuilt) block. and whole engines that are professionaly rebuilt usally come with a warranty.

My husband says you should buy a new motor if you can afford it. If you can't afford a new motor,then he says you should at least rebuild it. Hope this helps.
