O.K. what is happening is like uh when i turn my steering like has to turn to much or something so it doesn’t return to it's upright position once I’ve turned, its still like upside down and last night it when out of control and just started going back and forth almost causing me to end up in a ditch. It's like it's possessed or something. Please can you tell me what’s wrong with it or at least what type of mech. I even need to take it to. It's has plenty of pwr steering fluid in it.

I recently purchased a 2001 VW jetta with 90K miles on it. It's a 2.0 non-turbo with a five speed manual (I traded from an automatic Explorer). I love the car so far but sometimes at speed of about 55 it's like it bumps a little bit, kind of like hesitation or a toned down version of what it feels like to run out of gas the bump bump before it cuts off, also sometimes it idles really fast when it's first started up and then once on the road it calms right down, this is my first german car so I am VERY gun shy if you are a VW person with experience on these matters or any good advice for a first time Vdubber let me know your advice, I really hope it's nothing major. I hope I didn't make a mistake switching from american/japanese cars. THANKS!

Hello,

I am trying to remove a seized caliper bolt from my 1990 Lumina APV, it is the front-right caliper. The bolt is basically only screwed into a 1/4" thick plate of steel, so I am not sure how it is putting up such a fight. I have tried hammering it, using PB Penetrator. The inside of the bolt was a T50 Torx bit hole, but I have ended up stripping the inside :(. I have been trying in vain for 2 days now to grip onto the outside of the bolt with vice grips, pliers to try and get it out, but it feels like its welded in there or something.

I read somewhere that a torch could be used to heat the bolt slightly, making it easier to come out.

Any suggestions?

I was told I need to change my timing belt, fan belt and waterpump.

My waterpump is broken and has leaked coolant all over the belts.

They quoted me $680 (Canadian) Is this too high?

Also I have a warranty that covers engine, transmission and seals and gaskets?

Would any of this be included in the warranty?

OK, this is probably the third question I've asked about the same car-related problem. The previous one is still open but, in order to get a better response, I thought I'd ask again with the new details I have. I know very little about cars but I've been talking to my Dad about this (who lives in a different state) and reading up...

In the last two days the steering has become VERY stiff and there is sometimes a humming/groaning noise when I turn the steering wheel. I am thinking the automatic transaxle fluid is low (in my 2001 Buick LeSabre). It explains how to check it in my manual but it sounds really complicated so I'm taking it to a repair shop today and having them look at it. The fluid does appear to be the right color though (pinkish-red) and there is never any liquid under my car when it's parked so I don't think there's a leak.

When I turn the steering wheel it is tight and doesn't feel as if everything is lubricated.

Does this sound right?

The gear shift lever (automatic transmission) moves freely, but does not shift gears. It is in 'drive' and will not change to another gear. Does it need a new transmission?
