My renualt has started making odd puffy noises from the exhuast, and there is a loss of power. Its struggling to hit 50 mph, and even that is taking awhile to reach.

I've just rang my local garage who said it sounds like the CAT, do you agree, and is it expensive to fix ?

The car is a Renualt megane scenic sports Elise .. W reg .. 2lt

I drive a 99 VW Beetle and for the past month I have noticed that after I turn my car off the fan would continue to run for a minute or two and then shut off. Two days ago my ac started making a weird noise and wouldn't get as cold and then the car would jump a little, like something was trying to come on. Yesterday while I was driving the car started to run hot. When I shut it off I noticed that the fan was not running after I shut it off like it had before. Please help! Thanks

Will running LPG on a petrol engine cause more problems to the engine and the car overall? I heard that factory made LPG cars have hardened piston ring, valve seat and other parts.

I have a Datsun 330 with an L26 engine and single nikki carb. I suspect the engine is fairly warn and I have found a little carbon build up on the 3 and 4 spark plugs. I need this car to get to and from college (which is up the highway signposted at 110) and I notice at 105 k/ph the car jerks and throws me back and forward in the drivers seat every so often which I put down to a couple of fouled plugs misfiring at fairly high revs....Today I could have sworn there was a backfire and I cleaned the plugs up 2 days ago and they actually looked fine, save for the carbon build up (I used a lil sandpaper to cean them up)....I am wondering if it could be an air leak causing the jerking on the highway?? Does this sound right or is there something else im missing?? I have had the carb rebuilt twice, but someone mentioned it may be an electrical condenser needing replacing. Any Ideas??

My friend has a Ford Fiesta with alloy wheels and has lost the locking wheel nut. The garage says they will have to smash the wheels off and replace them (expensive!). Is there another way?

My AC is out. I know compressors have a circuit to prevent clutch engagement when refrigerant is too low. Also, when I try to add refrigerant, the system will not accept it. Could someone tell me what this indicates? Does this indicate there is a major break somewhere? However, if this were the case, I would expect the refrigerant to be accepted into the system, albeit it would then be wasted. Can anyone help me diagnose the problem?

I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup, 22RE I4 engine with EFI. 300Km...Good compression,no oil burning, 5 speed manual.
FAILED HC Test limit 66ppm reading 209....PASSED HC Curb Idle Test limit 200/ 129
FAILED CO% limit 0.37 reading 8.34.........PASSED CO% Curb idle limit1.00/0.18
PASSED NO limit 968 reading 36................N/A
RPM @ 2525.............................................RPM @ 867
Dilution 17.4.............................................10.3
These results seem to indicate a very rich mixture at higher RPMs. Prior to testing I did a complete tune up including new NGK Iridium plugs (correctly gapped), wires, distributor cap and rotor, PCV valve, air and fuel filters. I set the timing to specs (with Dianogtic terminals jumped). I changed the oil (synthetic) and filter. The exhaust system was shot, so I replaced the Cat and muffler with new Magna Flow low restriction (2 1/2") parts. I reused the original front pipe with the O2 sensor in it....a header and new induction system will follow when I have $$$$. I did not adjust the valves as they are not noisey.
Since the test I have tested everything I can think of that would give high HCs and COs.
This truck uses an Air Suction system (Passive/Pulse air system, not an air pump)...it is working properly.
I've tested the Coolant Temperature Sensor both in the truck and on the bench...it's OK.
I've tested the vacuum switching valve for the high temperature line pressure up system....OK.
The fuel pressure regulator seems to be working properly, but I don't have a gauge...?
The Dash Pot filter is clean and it works OK.
There are no codes stored in the ECM. It is not an OBD-II system.
When I tested the O2 Sensor initially (after warm up) I was getting readings of 150-200mV @ idle, 800-900mV @ 2500 RPMs. Later it jumped to 500-600mV & 900-1400mV...?
My Haynes Emissions Manual says to watch for a voltage drop when you disconnect a vacuum line(too lean)..it did, and a voltage increase when propane is added through a vacuum line(too rich)..it did.
Do you think the O2 Sensor ($200) is Boffed?...or is the ECM not adjusting the fuel mixture?...or could the Magna Flow Cat be at fault?...too low back pressure maybe?
HELP!

I thought that it was only important to match up the front two car tires. The back tires could be mismatched tread. I had a bad tire in the back passenger side and changed it to a different tire than the other three. After two years that tired was ruined. Where I got the new tire, they said it was because the tread didn't match the other back tire. Is this true?

Hi, I have a 1989 chevy corsica that keeps stalling when I have to stop at a stop sign or red light. When I'm driving it down the road, it's fine, it's only when I have to stop. When it does stall, I turn it back on, and put it into drive, and it stalls on me again, also stalls on me when I put it into reverse.I took it to a couple of mechanics, and they can't find the problem. The alternator and battery are good. What else could be the problem? The fuel filter, vacuum leaks, idle air control valve, or fuel pump? I'm asking this because this is the info I found on the internet that it could be. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I took my Ford truck to Maxwell Ford (South Austin,TX) for a front brake job. 5 days later, they hand me the keys and said that my truck was ready. Within 15 minutes of driving off the dealership, the brakes lock, a lot of black smoke started seeping and the tires caught on fire which almost caused a multiple car accident, injury or death! A good samaritan/witness who is a Maxwell Ford employee contacted me stating that the truck fell off the lift while servicing it and the frame was bent out of shape. The impact was so hard that it knocked the battery out of the motor and even cracked their concrete floor. The truck was rushed to their body shop to patch the damage. Jim Ramsey, the Service Manager, deliberately did not notify me of this incident. In addition to the brakes and fire damage, my gas tank and oil filters have been punctured. Now, they are trying to fire our witness! What started as a brake problem resulted in a totaled car! Don't trust them, spread the word!

I have a 1992 mercury sable, it has 50,000 miles on it. I've had it about 2 years. its a great a to b car. I got it from an older lady who only used it to go to the store. On monday I had brake problems. Grinding and the peddal didnt work to stop, i let up on it and pushed it again and it worked. I didnt want to take another chance of that happening so I had it towed to brakes plus. They called and said they would look at it and call me back with what was wrong and an est. They called back and said$788 for pads calipers ect and 2 new hoses on my radiator. I said ok.
The next day the called and said another $600 for a new master cylinder. I asked was this the real problem? I said I didnt want to fix it unless this was the for sure problem. He said it was.
Today they called and said$500 for something they have to special order.

$1950, they'll drop down to $1700

I know theyre screwing me, what are my choices?

Can I leave my car there and NOT pick it up?

Before I take it to an over priced shop what is the best way to tune the carburetor myself to obtain the best air/fuel ratio. I want power plus a better milage rate. As of now it is running so rich that it just drinks gas like crazy. Can anyone help me?
