Yes.
The fuel tank should be a sealed unit.
There is a 'breather' in case it is over-filled but there should always be a cap on the tank.
If your car is the one missing a cap then get a replacement urgently.
This is a MAJOR fire risk!

Could have an impact if somebody decides to syphon fuel from your tank! If there is no fuel cap, best also to drive without having a full tank.

It can, has something to do with the vaccuum created witin your fuel system, and your emissions... I live in illinois and we have state governed emission standards and a fuel cap is required because it's better for the enviroment, also if you do'nt have a cap, gas can evaporate and you will have to buy it more often..
Hope this helps. N

i take it as a car driver you have no concept of what fuel spills on roads can do then. its dangerous not just for you but for the people that ride over your fuel on the road. get a cap or get a bus.

Yep, fuel will evaporate more and probably splash out, as well as perhaps being siphoned. You're at risk from all sorts of rubbish getting in the tank and, finally, it's bl**dy dangerous

The fuel vapors escape from the tank. Usually they stay in the tank and are used by the engine.

Yes and it's illegal because in the event of an accident you will spill fuel all over the road which can then be ignited.

Some evaporation and could allow foreign matter to enter the tank causing poor performance.
