hi there.

I must repair at least two Volvo 850's every week for a broken odometer. it is either the motor or a tiny broken gear.

the instrument cluster in that car can be very difficult to pull out for the average mechanic. some will charge up to $300.00 in labor plus the cost of repairing the unit.

I have figured out how to remove the speedometer in about ten minutes.

When i remove and repair a speedometer on a Volvo 850: i charge the customer $150.00.

If the customer removes the speedometer: then i charge $100.00 to repair it.

Takes about 30 minutes and i guarantee it for 2 years!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

A repair shop is not going to charge you to give you a price to repair the odometer.

However, they are also going to give you the standard line......

there could be several things that could be causing the problem.. you could have an electrical problem.....

then they will want to charge you for a diagnostic.

they are right to a degree.. there are more than 1 thing that could be wrong, or causing the problem.

If you have a local O'Rielly's Auto Parts in your area... I have just recently gone there.. The sales people there were really helpful. Telling me if I'm wasting money or not.

That might be a place for you to start.
