According to Wal-Mart, the tread on my tires is 5/32 for two of them, 6/32 for one of them, and 3/32 for one. They recommended replacing my tires. Visibly, it looks like I have some good tread left and my dad advised I can probably go 10,000 more miles before having to change out tires. I put the tires on at 75,000 miles, and now I have nearly 136,000 miles.

I purchased a replacement fuel pump for a Ford 51 flathead 6. The original inlet connection was 1/8"MPT but the replacement pump has a larger port but 1/4"MPT will not work. Appears to be a different thread. The fuel pump outlet line will fill correctly, so I will describe it. The steel fuel line has a swivel type thread with a compression style fitting on the tubing end. The line is 1/4". Any ideas on what to call this fitting? 1/4" compression male maybe? I cannot find such a fitting at the local auto parts store.

l have a 1982 Toyota Corona. After leaving it to sit for a week l went to start it and it made a noise like there was a bad connection (kind of like a machine gun, of course not a loud) coming from the engine. Sometime it would make this noise, other times it would make no noise at all. Any ideas from anyone??? Thanks in advance.

Have a vehicle (1989-1991 [not too sure of year] Buick Century) that was snowed in my parking lot (NOT ran off the road). After repeated attempts to get the vehicle out (lots of braking, reversing, going forward) I noticed the brake pedal going to the floor. Refilled the Master Cylinder thinking that would improve it. This was on Wednesday, as of friday AM, the brakes are almost nonexistent (without excessive pumping prior to stoppping). What has happened and what are my options (without going to a mechanic)??

ok, this truck has the button on key chain to lock/unlock doors. the control box for this is under dash. no power to truck, headlights wont even come on, no lights no nuthing. When I connect a 50amp charger to battery, all lights work, but starter will not turn over when I turn key. battery, starter and battery/start relay all test excellent on test bench. control box under dash makes weak relay type noises when you open the door of truck(either door) close door it quits making noise. It never did this before. Also quits making noise when turning on key in ignition.but no power at anything without charger hooked to battery. when i hit the lock/unlock button on key chain, door locks will work like it's under weak power. any suggestions? The truck is dead in the driveway.thanks for help.

O.K., my oil light continues to come on and off. However, I found out something more this time. When I drive at a speed for the appropriate gear that I'm driving the oil light will not come on. Example: I'm going 45 miles per hour, I'm good in 3rd gear. The oil light won't come on. However, If I go into 4th gear at 45 miles per hour the oil light will come on and off, sometimes even stay until I go back to the appropriate gear for the speed that I'm driving. Now, the options for the previous question was Sender unit or Oil Pump. Which one does it sound like to you guys now that I've done my further investigation and told you from this earlier portion of this paragraph I just wrote?

You know how when a shop says it takes 2.5 hours to do a repair on a car or some such timeframe? Is there somewhere online to find that info for different cars or is it just you have to take their word on it? I've had 1 mechanic tell me 1.25 hours to change the same part on same car that another mechanic tells me is 2.4 hours, so is there somewhere to look this up to see if they are padding time or maybe cutting me a break and shaving it off? The most current thing I need done is a timing belt replaced on a 91 nissan maxima sohc. 6 cyl

here are details:

brought my car to firestone because battery kept being drained.. they said change batter cables for $110, did it, week later, problem happened again

went back, they said i needed a new battery, went spend $100, same problem

so i took it to AAMCo, they said the battery wasnt put it perfecting (smoething about a terminal)... and that there is an electrical short which was the problem the whole time.

i emailed firestone, telling them i demanding the cost of BOTH repairs and two days of lost income. total $400.

do you think this is valid, should i fight this? i live in NJ, do i have any basis.

the manager left me a voicemail and said to call him tomorrow, what should i say

Hey your help will be of great thanx. Anyways...when I start my car, somtimes it makes a very embarssing grinding noise. It kinda hard to explain. It happens in cycles, like it won't do it for like 2 or 3 starts, but it gets worse from there. The engine turns over first then like the sec right after it hangs up and makes this awful noise. It almost sounds like a bad buzzer. It will continue to get worse and worse, then go back down to nothing. I just want to know whats wrong with my car. If its somthing simple, please tell me, b/c I would like to save some money doing it myself rather then taking it to a mechanic.
