batteries WILL freeze if cold enough and it is dangerous. it depends on the state of the electrolyte.
state of charge(%) depth of charge(%) freeze point (ferenheit)
100% .................... 0 ....................... -77
75 ..........................25 ...................... -35
50 ........................ 50....................... -10
25 ............................ 75 ....................... 5
0 (dead) ..................... 100 ...................... 20
you can pull it out and bring it inside if worried about it being frozen until it thaws. then put it outside and charge it no more than 10 amps until you can put the battery in your car, turn your headlights on for five minutes then off for five then start your car and if it starts fine its good. there are easier ways with a multimeter or other equipment, so if you have a mulitmeter email me and ill explain that way. batteries are dangerous make sure you wear gloves and safety goggles or safety glasses and a face shield and protect all skin possible while around them while charging, do not smoke or have any open flames around them either while charging could explode (lawyers)
hope this helps

Batteries have hydrochloric acid in them and don't freeze like water does. A fully charged cold battery has less power than a fully charged warm battery. Charging batteries give off flammable gasses. Avoid sparks by leaving the battery installed and by connecting the charger to the battery while the charger is not plugged in. In this order; open hood and connect the charger to the correct terminals. Set the charger on the correct setting. Plug the charger in. When charger shows the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger from the elctrical outlet. Then disconnect it from the battery. Close the hood and start the car.

Not knowing what you call freezing as I don't know your location. If it is -40, yes take the battery into the house and leave it for at least 12 hours. Then take it out of the house and charge it up. If only a few degrees of frost charge it where it sits.

listen to denbobway, best way to do this short of replacement.
never, ever, charge a car battery in an enviroment of a living
space, gases are formed and be harmful/deadly. be careful.
