l have a 1982 Toyota Corona. After leaving it to sit for a week l went to start it and it made a noise like there was a bad connection (kind of like a machine gun, of course not a loud) coming from the engine. Sometime it would make this noise, other times it would make no noise at all. Any ideas from anyone??? Thanks in advance.

The machine gun noise is the starter solenoid clicking from not enough power. Clean your battery connections and charge up the battery and it will start.

Your battery is low. Try a jump start. Red to the + side of both battery's Black to the - side of both battery's. Let the other car run about 5 min to charge your battery. Your car should start right up. Then have your battery checked. If it is cold where you live remember, the colder IT is outside, the weaker the battery is.

sounds like the solenoid isnt kicking the starter in.also check all connections, like the wires on the starter and make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.have someone tap on the starter with a hammer(not very hard though)while you try to start it.it could be stuck.
