My car "jerks" when accelerating between 2000 and 2200 rpm. It doesn't matter what speed I'm going or gear I'm in. Is this something simple like my fuel pump, is my universal slipping or is it something else? By the way, the car has just under 300K miles on it so it's not worth a major repair.

I've had this car for a little over two years, and never replaced the battery or alternator or any other part. For a while now, it will sometimes struggle to turn over, for a couple minutes, but will always turn over. I was told that this was my battery, but I unfortunately just transferred university and don't know any honest mechanics in the area. I live in New York State, where it obviously gets very cold. On top of the car sometimes taking a while to turn over, just a couple days ago, after letting it sit and warm up for about 5 minutes, when I went to reverse out, the car just STOPPED running, although the panel lights and radio remained on. I started it again, and after going a few feet, it stopped again. The third time, it didn't shut off and made it all the way to work and has not done it since. Anyone have an idea to the problem, and if I can drive it for another couple days until I get paid to have it tested and/or fixed?

I have a car that lost its dim lights. The only way i have lights if i only hold the lever of the brights. Then i have lights. I tought maybe it was the circuit breaker because the manual says if your light go out then it could over load the circuit breaker and blow it. So i took a guess and bought the part cost me bout 20.00 dollars. Well lets just say no more guessing it didn`t work. Now to make things worst my car has a hard time starting it will turn over but just don`t want to start. I went 3 days straight getting it to start on the 3rd to 4th try. Just went out there today and started right away? Now what could this be repair shops say its the switch for the lights and for the starting they say it sounds like the starter? If anyone can help please do thank you 4 your time.

The mechanic tells me that the belt is still in very good condition, and it doesn't make noises when it's dry, but every time it rains, the belt squeals for a few days.

I took my diesel car for its MOT. It failed on emissions. They replaced oil, air filter, put in fuel cleaner etc. They then took the car out the garage to run the cleaner through and warm up the car prior to the emissions test. I did not know they had taken it out till I arrived at the garage and it wasn't there. Whilst they were out the cambelt snapped. As my car was a P reg escort effectively they have written it off.

They never mentionned that cam belts may go during the 'smoke test'- I have since been told this. Apparently I should have been provided with a government leaflet that mentions this as well

I was wondering if anyone else has had similar or knows where I stand. From my point of view they have had my car in for an MOT done minor work and then written it off. My initial contact with garage suggests that they think I should either take the car away in the current state and pay for the work done or that I should let them fix it and pay hundreds of pounds more to them

I have a '90 Ford Tempo, and this morning after I started it up, there was no heat. The fan wasn't blowing at all, and the car didn't sound exactly right. It wasn't plugged in last night and the temperature got down to -20 celsius. I looked under the hood and the coolant was all topped up, so I slammed the hood shut. As soon as I did that, the car went back to sounding normal and the fan was blowing hot air, working perfectly. What could be the problem? Is it possible something was frozen or a hose was crimped and when I slammed the hood it worked itself out? I know it's an old car, but it loves the winter.
