Window crank handle?

Please read this one.

I wish I knew what year and type of car you have. But, if the item you are talking about is what I think it is, I would in fact call it a "window crank knob". The tiny knob you grab is a part of the crank and is attached from the back with a machine screw. You can get these at junk yards, or new at a dealer. BUT, you can not get the crank off without a special tool!!! It is available anywhere auto tools are sold, and is very specific to this task. It is a flat metal device with an angular slot at one end, and a type of handle at the other.

The crank fits onto a splined shaft that pokes through the door panel. The shaft has a groove machined in it. The crank has a peculiar clip that snaps into this groove. The special tool slides behind the crank and dislodges the clip. There is no way I have ever heard of removing that handle without the tool. I have made one from scratch from sheet metal, but it has an unusual and specific shape, and has to be exactly right. The tool costs about the same as the new crank.
