my 1972 car, has hidden headlights but they seem not to be working, how does it work and how can i check it to see if it still has some power in it.

yep, those older cars used pneumatics to raise ans lower the covers. There might be a broken hose going to them ans since it is that old the cylinder might have gone bad as well. You should be able to move the cover slightly by hand to see if it is holding pressure.

Vacuum actuated. Probably broken hose to vacuum motor, or switch.
