i own a repair shop, and before i replaced the heater core id see if the hoses that go to the heater core are getting hot if they aren't there may be a problem with the thermostat in it,there's lot of things it could be like a heat control valve, you might need a good repair manual to help you with this one,i could tell you 20 things on what it could be,but you might not be able to repair all of them by your self, good luck,i hope this helps,.

aside from your answer above, maybe have your air/mix door checked to see if it is opening for heat or a/c. otherwise feel your hoses under the hood to see if they are warm/hot when you have run the veh.for awhile and shut off the engine.then it could most possibly be the thermostat.if it is the heater core, you would most likely have a smell of antifreeze in you veh.and the inside of your windshield would have a film and be fogged up.

step by step instructions can be found in Chilton,s auto repair manual.................can be found at your local library........but be sure this is what you need........first check ;thermostat, coolant level .if these are good......be sure heater temp. selector is switched to hot & functioning [vent door stuck open ? ],then touch your heater hoses, are they both hot? if not check to see if you have a heater control valve......stuck in the closed position?..if all above is good & heater hoses are cold......your heater core is probobly pluged up......if still in doubt have a service tech look at it. hope this helps!

check your thermostat first. it could be stuck in open position.replacing it would be a cheap and easy first step, compared to replacing a heater core
