When I turn off my wipers they go straight up the farthest from lock position and stay. Its like the switch for lock position is flipped? Any way to fix it? They function 100% otherwise.

I've been having an issue with my 1969 chevy impala and its voltage not being adequate on my voltmeter gauge. These are the items installed: voltmeter model #SUN-CP7955 alternator model #PWM-37294 and a Optima Red Top battery. Voltage of a car when it is not turned on should be at or around 12 or so, then when the car is started and the engine is running, voltage should jump and remain between 14 and 14.7 volts. My alternator is pretty much brand new and has a built in regulator thats rated at 14.7 output. I have tried multiple configurations of my alternator setup, which can be used as a 1-wire or 3-wire setup. My alternator does not seem to be charging my battery as the voltage remains at 12 volts when running, when driving the car the voltage slowly drops to the point where the battery begins to die. Alternator failed a test at Kragen, but worker didnt seem like he knew what he was doing, performed self test at home by starting car and removing + post of battery, car stayed on!

If not autozone, do any other auto places do that for free? and is it a companywide policy or decided by individual stores? When I say diagnose I mean simply hooking up the diagnostic thingy and showing what is wrong with it. And from your experience are diagnosis tools acurate in general?

My car is not starting because of my timing belt, do I need to replace the whole system or just the timing belt itself. And if its just the timing belt how hard can it be. What are the price ranges to get that fixed.

I have a 95 Grand Prix, anyone who has worked or owned one before 96 knows these cars act as if they have a draw on the voltage. Even when everything is turned off, once you stop, the turn signals blink slow and the heater slows. When everything is on full/high, it does the same thing, but my meter still reads 13.2 to 14 volts at any given time. I have a new alternator in it already and a new battery. I'm not sure what Pontiac was doing, but I was wondering if a higher capacity alternator would solve this problem. I've talked to countless shops and parts stores and they all say the same thing about the car, it's just a Grand Prix thing.

The display that shows the CD/radio and status of the heating and cooling just suddenly blinked out while driving. I do not have navigation in the car. Interestingly the CD player kept playing for a few minutes afterwards then stopped as well. I am able to eject CD's but not insert or play them. AC/heat still work (even without the display). No other problems, only 30K miles on the car.

I checked all of the fuses on both fuse boxes (engine and in the car), all are okay. Any thoughts?

It is the 4.3 Ltr (Z code) engine with manual tranny. Also, the Oil pan leaks....

I was quoted about $1100 to fix both. I was told that it could be done by a fairly handy person (like yours truly) using ramps...

Anybody done these repairs? - if so, I am looking for your advice.

Also looking for a good local repair shop (ITP) ini Atlanta.

I have a '00 nissan altima and it goes " boing, boing" in every single bump i find. My mechanic says that I need to change the struts but he charges about 900 bucks (Including parts)(4 sides) or I can get the parts and he does da labor. I went to ebay and check out some prices and I found a lot of confusion there. What is struts/schocks.Do I need to buy springs. or Should I let the mechanic do whatever he needs to do.

My Camry is only 7 mos old. Tonight for the first time the door ajar light and dome light stays on even though all doors are closed. I can't lock the doors with the keyless remote as all I get is a constant beep indicating there is a door open. Any suggestions, preferably solutions, would be appreciated.

We are considering purchasing a 1979 Ford Thunderbird for $900

Here are some cons we have seen:
Rust on hood (Not alot)
Rust on Roof.. not Bubbly like the hood
Rust along the underneath edges of the car
Rotars need to be "smoothed"
AC blows but not cold (use to blow cold according to him)
Muffler needs to be replaced (husband says it looks like swiss cheese!)
Chrome around windows need to be replaced
Other minor looking flaws

Pro's
4 new tires
Recent tune up
Recent Coolant Flush
New Alternator
New Fuel Filter
Regular Oil Changes
Runs SMOOTH
New paint job (was done over rust......tsk tsk)
From afar looks very nice

We know that it needs alot of work. We would just like to know from your experience is this a good deal. He is asking 1000, but it has been on the market for almost a month. We would like to offer 850+.

If you need any more info, please ask, I will be watching this question intently, THANK YOU!!!

I have a 92 Lumina with 3.1L V6 and 3 speed auto tranny. The engine runs great but the only thing that I am concerned about is that when the engine is cold it will make a very slight taping noise the engine will make this noise for maybe two or three minutes then it will go away. The taping noise will only increase with engine speed but it will not decrease with engine speed. It will not make the noise when the car idling or when its in neutral or park even if I rev the engine. It has made this noise since I got the car but I just want to hear some opinions as to what it could be. The car has almost 127,000 miles on it.

I have a Buick Regal with an electrical problem. It started with a single occurence of all dash lights blinking on with the engine shut off. My impression is the ECM rebooting. It did this once or twice a day with no observed pattern for about four days. Now when the key is inserted, ignition on, prior to starting - the dashboard blinks! It blinks approximately twice a second. The enging can be started, but it runs - on and off - with the same twice a second timing. I only ran for two seconds to make this observation.
I have never seen this sympton before, and internet quiries makes no reference to this behavior.
Any suggestions? Seen before? TSB's?
Is it worth buying a scan tool to try to get codes or should this go to a shop.

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger V6 and my manual said to add 5W-30. I bought some, brought it home, drained my oil, and then saw that the oil cap on my truck said 5W-20.

I wonder which one is correct for my truck and, if it really takes 5W-20, will the 5W-30 that is in it hurt it?

What do the numbers mean?

The mechanic wants to charge $500+ to do it and says the part is around $220. This seems high and I'm tempted to try and change it myself. However I'm new to this stuff so I was wondering what the difficulty level is. I know on standard vehicles it is supposed to be pretty straight forward, but my Tracker is 4CYL/4WD. Does this make it more difficult and that is the reason for the $300+ labor fee? Any help is appreciated.

My car puffed out blue smoke while driving on the motorway. the car was sitting at 70 and I was progressing up hill when i noticed it. It happened twice and so far it has not happened since. What would be the main causes of this? And how would I fix such a thing? Is it going to be costly depending on what it is?

I have a 1998 VW Cabrio with low mileage (50,000), and automatic transmission.

This evening I started the car and noticed that the speedometer stopped working altogether though it had been working earlier today.

I drove home from school, about 30 minutes, and just as I was getting to my street, the check engine light came on.

All other gauges are working properly and I have not noticed anything else wrong.

From what I've been reading, I believe it is the speed sensor.

Am I correct, and could I purchase the part myself and have someone very familiar with cars install it?

If not, how much will it cost me to have repaired?

I have a year-long warranty on all electrical work because I was forced to have the electrical system re-installed thanks to the previous owners' bad aftermarket automatic starter. Would this warranty cover the work?

I appreciate the help very much. Thanks!
