My car is not starting because of my timing belt, do I need to replace the whole system or just the timing belt itself. And if its just the timing belt how hard can it be. What are the price ranges to get that fixed.

Depends on the vehicle, timing belt is your internal drive belt. If your car has a "interferance" engine it could have been damaged beyond repair upon breakage (valves hitting piston). If not you should always replace your timing belt tensioner while the belt is being replaced due to the fact that many timing belts fail because of the tensioner. Timing belt jobs range from $350-$800 all depending on the type of car and motor. Good luck.

If it's the timing belt, you first have to know if it's a broken timing belt or maybe a timing belt tensioner that seized and broke the timing belt. Next, you have to know if you have interference or non-interference valves. You should hope non if you broke a timing belt. If they are interference, that means the valves protrude from the head when the cylinder is at a low point (won't collide). If the belt breaks and the valves are extended and the piston rises and hits it, you could have bent valves, holes in the piston top, etc. ($$$$). If you can, post the type of car to find out if the engine is interfernce or non-interference. Also, if the timing belt is broken, when you try to start, you would hear a constant whine of the engine instead of a chug-chug-chug-chug because there's no compression. The cost for a timing belt depends on the vehicle involved. Some are easy to get to. Some require removal of a lot of engine items so they cost more.

Good Luck......

Some cars the valves hit the pistons is the engine is not timed correctly or if the belt breaks. If you are unsure what you are doing take it to a garage. If it's just a belt the prices in other answers are probably pretty close, if valves are bent then it will be very expensive.

This type isn't widely used for bent valve difficulty. set up new timing belt, at present after the belt is on the gears crank the engine. If it would not sound widely used or sounds free/no compression then proceed from there to get rid of the camshaft cover. i ought to rigidity that doing the cyl head in this type motor vehicle isn't quite basic and calls for few particular equipment and expertise. those who take it upon themselves to do those type of work get a motor vehicle that's both leaking oil each and every of the time or not in any respect runs correct. it will be executed by technique of a mechanic who's commonplace with this variety of volvo. strong success.

It depends on what type of car you have. Some are called interferince engines and the valves get bent when the belt breaks. if its not a inter.. engine then changing the belt should fix your problem and the prices vary from about 20 to ?

It depends. Normally just the timing belt, but some engines will let the valves hit the pistons if the belt breaks and then, well. It just depends on the car you have.

Are you sure it's the belt? It wont start only if the belt snapped. Usually you replace the waterpump every other timing belt, every 120,000 miles or so.

To replace it you need a timing light, not too expencive, but if you arent mechanically inclined, it's about $400 for a garage to replace it.

Just the belt. Depending on what car you have it can be an easy job and inexpensive to have done or it can be extremely complicated and very expensive!
