It started when it was wet out it wouldnt start at all.I replaced rotor distributor cap and coil.It started fine for a week or so.Now it will turn over but will not start most times unless I turn the key to power on fuel pump turn it back off and repeat for about 10mins. Help! I did have someone check fuel pump it is said to be fine. It is a gmc safari with about 140000 miles on it. he put c-foam in the gas tank. also when i changed rotor dist. cap and coil I sprayed everything down with silicone.Could it be as simple as plugs? Is there a way to check injectors without removing them?

I had the catalytic converter replaced about 8 months ago, but now the car is stalling when I accelerate. There is no engine light and it starts and idles just fine. When I get on the road it lurches and doesn't get past 30mph. I have recently replace the spark plugs(wires didn't need it) fuel filter, transmission filter and the engine oil. It was running fine for a while after all these changes, but ran like crap this cold morning. If anyone is familiar with this kind of problem please help!! Thank you.

I asked yesterday if I should use Bar's Leak for my blown head gasket on my '95 Ford Mustang V6, and most people said "no", and I should just sell the car. I'm a college student, and selling my only means of transportation is not an option at this time. The dealership wanted to charge me $1450 to get it fixed, and I talked them down to $1000 and told them I would think about it. I"ve called one other place and they said they would change ALL the gaskets while the engine's out for that price, and maybe even cut down the labor costs a bit. I HAVE to get this repair done, or I"m going to be Chevro-legging it. I can't afford a new car. What is a fair price to find for this repair? Any mechanics or people who know lots about head gasket repairs and costs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi all, that very same Rover 420d with the power steering fluid leak.. when we had a look for the leak we noticed the rubber gaiter near the wheel corroded, does that mean the CV joint is scrap too? Although we have had a whining noise from the front wheel for a few weeks but having the stereo/amp up loud you tend to forget noises...! We had the tensioner arm thingy replaced a few months ago... the fluid seems to be leaking from a unit that sits at the underneath (going towards the car ) of the tensioner arm (this is on the front left of the engine)... sorry if it sounds a bit muddled and wonky but would really appreciate some sound advice on this as we gotta drive to Wales tonight so be cool if anyone can actually understand what I mean.... thanks everyone!

My chevy s-10 pickup automatic is shifting rough from 1st to 2nd, gives the truck a "bump" when shifts. Tech says I likely need a valve body replacement. He also indicated I could drive this for a while if I wanted. What more can happen if I prolong replacement? Truck is still at a fair blue book value and I'm wondering if I should sell it now. I have been very lucky in not having to sink any $ aside from normal wear and tear into it, so for me to have it replaced is the first $ investment. I have 103k miles for 2000. Anyone else in a sim sitch, or having multiple problems at this mileage as well? I'm wondering if this is the begininng of the end?

ok. I got my first stick shift car which is a super car about 300 HP. since I am new on driving stick shift and I dont know how can I tell if I have made any damage on the car ... (if possible can anyone tell me how to avoid any damage ?)
Are there any possibility that any damage can cause on the speed on the car? I dont know if I feel that wrong or not. I always feel I cannot go as fast as when I just bought my car.
Also, how can I tell if I "break in" my new car correctly or not ? anyone know how to break it in right ?

I just got one of those diagnostic reports done at the dealership, since my check engine light went on . They said I need new spark plugs which they want to charge an arm and a leg for, when I can get them for $10 each at the most.

I consider myself a shade tree mechanic, one of those DIY guys. I also consider myself frugal (cheap) and don't see the point of spending $350 on a brake job when I can do the majority of the work myself and spend only $100. I also have a project car that's needing a paint job and some other "serious" work which I'd like to give some attention to. It is an outlet of sorts - getting dirty, using my hands, fixing things, an escape from the mundane office setting.

Due to circumstances I now live in an apartment complex, and they're pretty strict about their "no mechanic work in the parking lot" policy. So now I have no place to do these things for my vehicle repair and maintenance.

What low-cost options are there for someone like me who wants to work on their car but can't do it at home? I'm looking for something like an "Auto Hobby Shop", but I couldn't find one in my area (Miami, Florida). Any suggestions?

I had to have it towed last night. After running fine all night, it died while I was turning a corner and wouldn't start back up. While waiting on the tow truck I managed to get it started, but it would only idle. If I revved it above 2,000RPM, it died. It also had a loud hissing under the hood.

Today I found the hiss. It was a vacuum leak. I plugged that back in, and the car is still very hard to get started, but will rev all the way to the top. If you press the gas too quickly though, it dies. While trying to start, it will chug and cough through the intake. I can turn the starter for a couple of seconds and then let off, and it will turn over 2 or 3 more times by itself trying to start. Sometimes if I listen, I can hear a mechanical "clink" followed by a beeping sound somewhere on the drivers side in the engine compartment.

I drove it and noticed a loss in power. It also hesitates now and then.

Fuel pressure reads 40 pounds which is normal.

My first question concerning the rebuilt 400 sbc that sat unused in storage also contained a rebuilt 350 tranny with shift kit. It didnt have any trans fluid in it. Both engine and tranny were bolted together during the 18 year "nap". After removing the trans pan the inside looked very good and there were no signs of rust. What can i expect from it performance wise?

I read in the internet some time ago that you can use the turbos or superchargers from salvaged vehicles to fit in to your car(mine is a '91 integra),but now I cant find the web site anywhere. Honda Tunning Magazine had an article some time ago,but it never gave any details how, what parts, or where? plus never returned my emails (wonder why?) Since I cant afford to misletoe my rear pocket and pay $3000 in shop and aftermarket parts, i would love to make one my self, I like to go to yunk yards, I keep running into Volvos and Mecedes Bens and Mini Coopers S with parts available starting at $100, It would be a great project!!! Please Yahoo questions PIMP MY RIDE!!!!

Ok I need a ball park estimate on how much i would expect to pay an unlicensed but pretty decent mechanic to fix my car.. i have a 1970 dodge superbee which needs ball joints (upper and lower) and the tie rods done as well as installing a 4 barrel carb and manifold ( taking off the 2 barrel ) and changing the outer seal on the transmission and i have already bought parts so just labor is all Im asking .. how much would any of you charge to do those things in labor?? Remember its a 1970 so the engine compartment is big enough to take a nap in if you wanted and the engine (318) is a super easy motor to work on ... Thanks in advance
