Ok I need a ball park estimate on how much i would expect to pay an unlicensed but pretty decent mechanic to fix my car.. i have a 1970 dodge superbee which needs ball joints (upper and lower) and the tie rods done as well as installing a 4 barrel carb and manifold ( taking off the 2 barrel ) and changing the outer seal on the transmission and i have already bought parts so just labor is all Im asking .. how much would any of you charge to do those things in labor?? Remember its a 1970 so the engine compartment is big enough to take a nap in if you wanted and the engine (318) is a super easy motor to work on ... Thanks in advance

hay, most backyard mechanics in my area get $30.00 per hour,I am gonna say that this sounds like about 8 hrs. of labor so something around $240 to$300. would probably do it well good luck:)

Any incorrect parts will change the price. How much hack work has been done previously will bring the labor cost up. No alignment after all the steering parts are put on? How big a rush you are in will determine how much shop time will get rearranged to accommodate you, price elevated. Pretty decent mechanics would charge shop rate and by the hour for however many hours such work took on a vehicle this old. All parts warranty is yours and a decent mechanic will pick and choose only select customers for work like this.

Balljoints, and tie rod ends, about $150 - $200, plus the cost of a front-end alignment. Manifold swap, about $150.00 - $200.00 depending upon how much linkage and fuel line work is involved. Tailshaft seal, about $50.00.

One comment though, you don't have a genuine Superbee! They didn't come wth 2-bbl 318 engines! Depending upon the year, Superbees came with a 383, 426 Hemi, or 440 six-pack engine. You have a Dodge Coronet with Superbee stripes.

If it was "super easy", you'd be doing it yourself. (and FYI - what motor it has in it is irrelevent when working on steering/suspension parts!)
