Is it recommended that we change the cam belt also? This is quite expensive so any information would be appreciated

I have been advised by 2 people that the 'pinking' noise is because the car needs better quality petrol, and so I have stopped buying it from the supermarket petrol stations and for 3 weeks have been going to a Shell garage. It's still making the same noise though - only seems to happen when I'm accelerating up hill.

Should it have stopped after 3 weeks? I did have half a tank of supermarket petrol in it when I first filled it up with Shell petrol.

If this isn't the cause, what else could it be?

Yesterday, when I took a 50 mile trip, air conditioning worked well. I stopped for gas and when I started back up,,,no air conditioning. I turned it to max,air, all different settings. I even turned it totally off for a while and back on again. No air. What could be wrong BESIDES needing a re charge? Brother put cans of stuff in last year and it didn't work quite right then either. It is a 97 pontiac grand am Help!

ive been reading alot latley about the gas prices and people starting us cooking oil as gas...and its working. what were to actually happen if i were to try this on my car. I'm a student so im always broke and saving money from gas would really help. I have a 99 chevy blazer if i tried it would my car work or brake down. and is there a difference if you use new oil or does it have to be used?

OK. I'm not a car person-so ya'll will have to be nice to me... ;}
When I turn on my AC, it only works on high (4). The light won't turn on or anything. Normally when I adjust the air, I can fill it "click" into 1,2,3,4. But it wont click until I get to 4. When I first noticed something wrong I smelled something burning-but I'm not completely sure it came from my car. It hasn't since. So I'm hot as all get out!!! Please help me!!!

I have 27,000 miles but when it reaches 36,000 it will expire. If i get a warranty that will last until 72,000 miles is it worth it? They are charging me $1,330.00. My friends tell me no because its not worth it. they say that by the time it reaches 36000 miles your engine is broken in and more likely nothing will happen.

I have noticed during this heatwave that my ac in my car has declined a great deal. It's been 90+ here lately. 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I just replaced the ac condensor and the dealership charged my ac freon. this was a little over 2 years ago.

i have already changed my 195 t-stat, cts, heater core, cap, fan overide so on constantly and still continues to overheat. it doesn't matter what type of driving, heater turned on. it always wants to overheat after about probably 40 miles of driving or so. no leaks other than what comes out of the overflow all the time from getting so hot. i'm think water pump, however nothing ever comes out of that weep hole. any ideas? has plenty of power. i don't have any water getting in my oil or coming out the exhaust, so i don't believe its a head gasket or cracked head.

I'm thinking about buying a BMW 525i 4 door sedan that has over 200,000 miles on it...everything on the car has been redone other than the transmission. I usually think it's ludicrous to buy a car with over 200k on it knowing that I'm just gambeling on its trans, but I haven't a clue how the foreign trans compare up against the domestics..I bought a 1994 Grand prix with 140k on it and the trans blew a month later, I don't want it to happen again.

Just out of curiositry, my mechanic is putting a Chevy 350 in my Jeep Wrangler and i was wondering what kind of gas mileage should i expect to get, i am running 32 inch tires. My car wont start, I know it needs gas(its empty) also no gas tank, but it still wont start, It wont turn over either, It does not have a battery in it yet, but wondering why it still wont start, I have also noticed that the tires are in good shape on the top half, but each tire it flat on the bottom? what do I do?

It makes a funny noise when I throw things at it, could it be a muffler bearing? any help would be great!

the dimmer switch I think is bad on my truck, here the thing. when I tilt my steering wheel all the up the low beam on the passenger side comes on but not on the driver side, and of course when I click the switch neither will come on. so should I replace the whole switch or just what controls the dim lights. and yes I changed the bulbs and that was not the problem.
