Yesterday, when I took a 50 mile trip, air conditioning worked well. I stopped for gas and when I started back up,,,no air conditioning. I turned it to max, air, all different settings. I even turned it totally off for a while and back on again. No air. What could be wrong BESIDES needing a re charge? Brother put cans of stuff in last year and it didn't work quite right then either. It is a 97 pontiac grand am Help!

As I've posted once before on this website, proper a/c repair and diagnosis is very simple if you want your air conditioning to work properly for a very long time.

-Check all your a/c related fuses in the car(both interior and engine bay)
-If they all check out okay, take your car to an air conditioning specialist.

A/C diagnosis is the biggest headache any technician can be faced with. ($$)

However, to quickly answer your question, when you're losing freon, you feel a gradual increase in vent temperature(it slowly gets hotter than usual). If your air conditioning suddenly stopped working, I'd suspect the fuses, compressor, condensor fan switch, or anything electrical related.

on high pressure line you will find a presser switch screwed into line with two wire plug you can unplug and unscrew presser switch without losing freon try replacing it if you dont have blowed fuse

could also be something like the clutch on the AC compressor going out.
