Insurance & Registration - July 2007

I am from Allegheny County, and I was wondering some stuff about auto insurance. I was told that I had to have car insurance if i had a license with OR without a car. I don't have a car and do not plan on getting one. Is it true that you have to have insurance even if you do not own a car yourself?

(i'm 19, living in a dorm in college so I would only be driving my parents car in the summer anyways.. so i don't want to pay a ton for insurance when i won't be using it.)

This weekend we wherer driving north on 205 in Washington State and within a matter of 15 miles about 7 or 8 California plates drove by.....Why not change your plates over IF you live here....Why not be legal about it? Cops are cracking down and lots of natives are more than eager to turn you in...

My parents don't want to let me get my motorcycle permit because of the insurance. However ... if I got the permit, I would not be buying a bike, I would be riding someone elses ... occassionally. It's basically just to learn to ride until I turn 18. So ... would I have to pay insurance with just a permit, even if I didn't have a bike? (BTW, the bike I would be riding is insured, and I already have my drivers license)

So I'm going to buy a small 4x8 utility trailer. I'm planning on either buying one of the ones from harbor freight tools for $300, or buying a used one from a private party

I know there is some registration involved, and that they have to pass state patrol standards, and that I need plates/tabs, etc.

I have very little money to spend, so I'm worried about possibly buying a trailer, and then it costing a fortune to register.

So what steps do I need to go through with a private seller to ensure I can transfer it into my name without having to have it inspected, or jump through any other hoops?

Also, what about the brand new ones from harbor freight? If I buy one of those, can I simply pay a few bucks to get the license plate/tabs, or does it have to go through an inspection too?

I live in washington.

I signed the settlement paperwork and returned them to my lawyer to pass on to the insurance adjuster. I need to get a sense of a time frame as to how long I can expect to wait before receiving my money.

I was rear-ended. His insurance was being difficult so I went through my own. However, the mechanic who did the estimate on my car had it ready the week of the accident. My insurance company didn't approve my car to get fixed until three months after the accident. I ended up spending close to $3000 in car rental fees. I've asked my insurance to reimburse me because they failed to follow through on the approval. But they refuse. Can I sue them for this?

I had planned on buying my sister a car. I would get the loan in my name, but she would make the payments. I don't want to put her on my insurance, b/c she would make it go up. Can my parents just insure this car through their insurance and just add me?

I recently had my car stolen and the insurance company is going to total the car. Someone mentioned to me that I am able to deny what my insurance company will offer me. I am aware that they will go off the Kelly blue book but one of the options on the site for kelly blue book is picking the condition of the car....how will the insurance company decide what condition it was in before it was stolen? help!

So please just go through this with me: once I finish the online thing, is there anything else I need to do before I take the test, and who do I call to take the test? Then, what do I need to do between passing the test and enrolling in driving school? Then, how long does it usually take to have a license once you're in driving school? Then, when you have your license, what official paperwork and crap will you need before you should start driving? Also, I saw something on the Today Show about a box worth of stuff that's good to have in your car, both for your actual car's function and incase of emergencies; what would this stuff be? Please include what everything will cost. I know that's a lot, but I'm freaking out here lol and would really appreciate some help.

Can someone advise how the insurance company will handle this? Incident occured in California. Brother 24, does not have a DL, this will be the 2nd time he is caught driving without one. To make matters worse he totalled parents car & may have been driving under the influence of alcohol. This happend last night and we are on our way to visit him at the hospital. We understand the DUI laws have become tougher and we understand he may have to serve some jail time plus fines if he's convicted of the DUI. My question is, will the insurance pay for the damages to the vehicle and or hospital bills. he doesnt have health insurance and was not listed as a driver in our parents policy (no DL). To my knowledge my parents did not let him borrow the car. My parents have full coverage and we are getting ready to call them to report the claim BUT can someone advice how they will handle this? we obviously want the insurance company to pay for the damages. any advice will be appreciated.

Other driver made an illegal U-turn and was ticketed. The other company claims he may not be 100% liable and want a recorded statement from my daughter. They will not let me rent a car until they have talked to her. Why is the police report & witness statements not enough? I am worried they are going to try to get out of it because of her age. The other dirver also has contaced my insurance company for a claim. Why would he do that if he admitted fault to us? We have an appoinment with lawyer next week but what should I expect?
