I signed the settlement paperwork and returned them to my lawyer to pass on to the insurance adjuster. I need to get a sense of a time frame as to how long I can expect to wait before receiving my money.

Ask your lawyer because it's gonna take awhile. FIRST they have to get the check. THEN they have to play with the medical bills and short change your doctors/health insurance company, THEN they have to pay those kick backs to the doctors in on the scam, THEN they have to make sure they have money for YOUR share, THEN they'll call you to come in and sign the check and hand you a seperate check payable just to you. Hopefully you live in a state like CA or NV where the insurance company is required by law to send you a letter stating they have sent the money to your attorney.

It probably depends on the insurance company, but I just went through this same thing and I had the check within two weeks. Once all the settlement paperwork is all set it does not take much time, you can always call the insurance company and ask them, the more you stay involved with the claim it seems the quicker it goes. Good luck

Hopfully your lawyer will send it out right away. Once the insurance adjuster recieves it, I would say 10 business days or less. Check with your attorney in a few day to be sure it was sent in a timely manner, then add a few days for the mail to be delivered. You should have a case number on your claim, so call the insurance adjuster if not recieved in an acceptable time.

It depends on your state. In Massachusetts the check arrives before the paperwork that explains it. You can take the check and use it for repairs (which makes the car full value again) or for anything else which means the next claim will assume your car is still unrepaired (and will be lower in value). When the paperwork arrives if your car is repaired you sign the paperwork and send it back to give the insurance company the right to verify the repairs if they want to.
