Then the bill of sale can be used to register the car and pay for the taxes? Thanks
Or does the bill of sale just have to by signed by both the seller and purchaser to make the sale final?

...OK, so we never really got around to looking at driving schools, and I will be 18 next summer. In addition, driving school is rather expensive, and my brother tells me that when he took driving classes, all he did was read the book.
Besides, after what my brother did to the family van and my dad's car, I'm not so sure driver's ed necessarily makes you a better driver. (In case you're wondering, my brother dented the family van twice, in addition to nearly breaking the passenger side's mirror off when he got too close to a tree. He has also dented my dad's other car. He hasn't gotten into a major accident... yet.)

I don't wanna spend $300-$400 just to read a book, so I'm thinking I will just borrow my brother's book and study it, then take the test next summer, after I'm 18.

So will this affect my insurance at all- if I have a license, but I don't have driver's ed?

Part I.
I was told that even if I got a car at a very good deal i.e. at a car auction I would have to pay state tax on the blue book value on the vehicle when I register it, not on what I actually paid. Is this true? (BTW- I am in the state of California). If you can direct me to a California Legal code that specifies this that would be great.

Part II.
If the vehicle was acquired for free. Do you still have to pay state tax on the vehicle when you register it?
PartIII.
Is it legal to pay state tax on something that you didn't buy?
(This is in reference to Part II. Again- This is the State of California). If you can direct me to a California Legal code that specifies this that would be great.)

I proceeded through a yellow light and was turning left, when a semi tried to beat the light also. the semi was going straight so i was ticketed for failure to give right of way. I am shaken up but physically ok. No one was hurt. Since my landlord did not have insurance on his vehicle and i was at fault, i am responsible for about 15 thousand dollars in damage. I truly believed he had insurance, he is my landlord, and we share a house. I felt obligated to take his car for him because of his health he has a hard time getting around. Please tell me if I can hold him responsible for not having insurance. THIS ALL HAPPENED ON 12/11 AND I GO TO COURT ON THE 28TH PLEASE HURRY YOUR ANSWERS

Will there be any differences in registering/insuring a car if I have a UK license instead of a US one? How long is it valid for before I have to take the US test? Can you own a car in your name without having a US license?

I have a restricted license in TX, since I've never went back to take the driving part of the test (not due to a suspension). Still, I own 2 cars and my insurance has been cheap - including full coverage.

I'm wondering though if the auto insurance companies can tell if my license is restricted? I didn't tell them, fearing they'd deny me.

I've never gotten in an accident but I was told the insurance company may try to get out of paying if I did, considering the restriction.

I've been driving for years now, with no accidents, no tickets. I know I need to take my butt down to the DMV and take that test - and I'm definitely going to within the next month. Meanwhile I want my cars to be covered.

Did the insurance company already know when I applied, that I had the restriction? Or, if they didn't, so long as I hurry up and take the driving part my car will be covered then?

I'm worried now because I just got the second car and it's kind of precious to me. LOL :-)

If you have insurance on one car, are you usually entitled to drive any? Borrowing cars seems to be a common thing over there but here (in the UK) you need to have insurance specifically on that car, or a policy where you can drive any car which is not easy to get and is also very expensive?
