For maintenace or repair for a BMW, do you take it to the dealer or an independant garage??? Will the change the price and the quality of the job?? Is it cheaper?

When I called my mechanic to arrange a time to have it inspected, he called it a Ford EXPLODER and said that a lot of things can go wrong with them.

I was thinking about buying a BMW 323ci or 328ci with about 150k on it. Would it be a reliable car?? Plus how expensive is maintenace for a BMW compared to a normal end car such as a honda or toyota? Will the price burn a whole in my pocket??

It's a '96 Dodge Interepid that was used for commuting to college and has almost ALL highway miles on it. It's in absolutely perfect (inside and out) condition, except the A/C doesn't work. It has a new radiator, brakes, and front tires. It runs like a dream and looks and drives like a new car. The only catch: It has 267,000 miles on it.
I need it to last the 4 years I'm going to college (about 40 miles round trip 3 days a week)-- do you think it's worth the risk? It costs $1300.

Thanks!!

Every diagram of every starter I have seen shows two bolts coming off the flywheel housing, and the starter fits over those bolts and is tightened down with a washer and a 17mm nut.

Situation: I can find the lower right nut [the one visible if looking from the front of the right rear tire][right = passenger side, left = driver side]. It was easy to remove.

I cannot find the upper left nut. When I crawl under and wrap my hand around the starter to reach for the upper left nut, I cannot locate it. There is something there but it is more square in shape, about 1/2 to 3/4 inches square and curved or rounded on one side, and it is built up taller than the lower right bolt [ maybe a 1/4 inch taller.

Can someone tell me how to remove this starter?

Can someone tell me what is going on in the area where the upper left nut should be?

I need an answer fast - my daughter needs the car to go back to school next week!

I would prefer to take this starter off in one piece.

They get their butt kicked in NASCAR by Chevy and Dodge.
They got laughed out of Formula-One.

We all _know_ their cars are second-rate junk. Why do they feel compelled to spend money on auto racing to prove what everyone already knows?

(Please: No flashbacks to the Iacocca years in the '60's. They don't matter anymore.)

I asked a similar but very general question yesterday.
I'm starting college at the end of august and im going to be a commuter. My mother is going to give me her 2000 Toyota Corolla, its going to be my first car, it has about around 107,000 miles on it. She says that she had it checked earlier in the year and everything was fine and before she gives it to me she'll do another check and she'll change the brakes.
So my question is, how long do you think it will last- with the right maintenance and tlc?

Back in the late 1990's, the high school and college parking lots looked like honda dealerships on steroids. Everybody had a honda with body kits and racing rims. Where did all those hondas go? I noticed that hardly anyone has a honda now, everybody's driving SUV's or other asian cars. Who is driving those hondas young people used to drive? I need a good answer.

I have two sons (9 and 11) and I'm ready to ditch my Nissan van. It's falling apart and I'm tired of spending the dough to fill the tank. I'm eyeing those small wagon-type things, like a Scion xB, a Toyota Matrix or a Dodge Caliber. Any people with kids who can recommend a car in this class? My kids aren't going to be giants or anything so I don't need anything big. Thanks!
