When a BMW needs repair 1st you have to go to the bank and take out a loan on your house. Then take it to the dealer if it is fairly new or to a trusted mechanic if it is fairly not new.
Fair?

When your car is under warranty, take it to the dealer because repair is free. They give you new parts, no questions asked because they charge BMW. When it is out of warranty, shop around. Different dealers may have different prices for the same repair! When they tell you repairs are required, ask questions. When they have convinced you that repair is needed, tell them you want the old parts returned to you. Sometimes, the broken problem will magically be fixed by itself after they 'double check'. Bottomline is: dealer or no dealer; find a shop you trust and take it there.

BMW maintance is devided into 2 cycle program. Inspection 1 and Inspection 2. Dealer charges $400 for Inspection I and $800 for Insoection 2. You can get most of these done from Indy shops for half of that price. But the most cost effctive way is to do it yourself. They are very easy to work on. One thing you want to watch out for is that BMW engines are very sensitive to coolant. So in either way, you should use Dealer BMW coolant ($18 - $25/gal using BMW CCA discount) So I would suggest that you would go with european car specialist.

engaged on the vehicle itself automatically isn't something out of this international. Any competant mechanic with the properly perfect recommendations might want to do it. yet there are some issues that are in reality broking service-purely. via that 12 months the 7-sequence is electonically a really more suitable vehicle so any programming and coding is to be carried out via the broking service or an independant shop that has the (extreme priced) BMW ISIS equipment. yet 2007 is between the perfect years for the E65 so particularly you shouldn't ought to rigidity about those issues... extraordinarily the older automobiles that by no ability had software updates or if you're venturing into retrofitting electonics products. once you've faults with the electonics like iDrive, navigation, radio, etc those upkeep should be left to the broking service. without the diagnostics tooks you may want to be throwing parts on the project that they received't opt for considering those modules want coding and programming to artwork anyhow.; both way if you're looking for an E65 in that mileage/funds it would want to be CPO which gives you a touch solid assure.. I appeared on-line and my close by broking service has one million 2006 750iL CPO with ~30k miles asking $39,995.

If you want it done properly take it to the dealer. Obviously cost is no object or you wouldn`t be in a BMW. That is why I drive a Chevy.

It all depends on what type of repair. When I had minor problems with my Audi (brakes, oil changes, etc) I took it to a local shop. Anything electrical or intensive I took to the dealer.

indipendent garage seems to always be cheaper on a per hour basis. BMW as a rule of thumb are expensive to service.
