I have a valid driver's license, and no problem driving moving vans etc. when necessary. But I am able to commute to work by bicycle and bus. On the other hand, it would be nice to be able to take my family out of town occasionally, and shopping might be easier with a car. Plus, my son wants to get his license soon (he is now 15). However, money is a huge issue - I can't imagine being able to afford to operate a car, let alone lease or buy one.

I’m currently in College (freshman) and I take the bus to school. It’s like a fifty minute commute, pretty dull and boring. I’m ready to buy a car, but I’m trying to decide whether to get a new or used car. I currently make roughly about $1,000 a month, and my car payment plus insurance would be my only bills to pay, plus books every semester (2 times a year). My dad and I reached an agreement in which I pay books and he pays tuition. I attend a state college in Southern California so it is not that expensive. Furthermore, if I was to buy the car, my dad would finance it and he has excellent credit, by that I mean that he has a really high FICO score, somewhere above 730, so that is a plus. My only responsibility would be to pay the car bill plus insurance which could be roughly $250 a month. What do you guys think? Any of you in the same situation, how does it feel to be bogged down with car payments?

By buying a new car I mean a Sentra, Yaris, Fit, Versa, Civic, or something of that sort, nothing extravagant or expensive.

Do car salesman give better deals on vehicle purchases on the last day of the month? I've heard that since they work on commission that they want to get as many sales in before the month closes out.

I bought a beautiful older mercedes, with EVERY service record ever done on the car in a nice little envelope, the car ONLY needed ONE thing ...a new battery... so, I had it towed to my house, paid the seller, and proceeded to jauntily go to the nearest Sears and buy a battery. As I excitedly turned over my old "new" car, it purred happily and quietly. I proceeded to get on the road, and as I drove I was quickly enveloped in a thick white smoke to the point of not seeing the road ahead or behind me. Drivers were honking and yelling at me, calling me a global warming instigator, pollutor, and other slanderous salutations. As I blindly tried to get off the road, I was fearing for my life as well as a few of the slander's, but I made it without too much incident. Finally one of the Roadsmen pulled over and said Why can't you damn Mercedes drivers get your Old Oil Burners off the road, give up the ghost and let the Germans have some dignity for producing a fine car!!

That means it's a buyers market right now. They're practically begging us to come in and take these gas guzzlers off their lots. I promise you, there are no salesmen bragging about how much gross profits they're holding now, LOL! If you're in the market for a new car, don't let them rip you off any more.

Hey everyone, I'm a 17 year old guy in the market for a cheap car. Must be a manual and rwd. Right now I'm driving my parent's 1998 Toyota 4 Runner (5 speed)... it's an AMAZING vehicle. Yes, it can be switched to just rear wheel drive. I don't think I'll ever be able to give up my love for rear wheel drive paired with a manual transmission. Only problem with the 4 Runner is that I don't like SUVs... they're way too heavy and expensive and eat gas like crazy.

So, now I'm in the market for something nible, cue a car. Must be manual and must have rear wheel drive. Finding a manual isn't too hard in the used car market... but finding a rear wheel drive car is quite tough nowadays, even in used cars.

So, which models/year?

I am coming out of a lease and I want to buy the SUV at the residual value. It is a 2004 but I recall years ago that a loan on an older care can only be financed for so many months.
